I wish the best for you, and speaking from my own (fairly recent) experiences, it always looks worst right before you get a break... Hopefully you will get one soon! I was pretty far down the toilet (all credit cards at max, living in a rented mobile home, etc etc) when I was trying to keep making a living in TV repair, as I had done just fine from age 18 to about age 35. Once I admitted to myself that it's no longer a viable career, I opened my eyes to other things. In your case, HVAC is definitely a career with a powerful future. It's probably just in a lull because of the economy and housing. I have a friend who was a self-employed HVAC contractor, and he has temporarily taken a full time job with the Ramada Hotel chain as the in-house HVAC man. When the economy gets better, he'll restart his own business.

Winter is on the way-that means lots of no-heat calls! They'll need you, Dave! One thing about a new job, possible new territory, is you'll soon be in lots of basements you haven't been in before. That means...a whole new batch of hidden TV sets to find!

Good luck. I really like your web site. Hope you get back on your feet soon. Nothing worse than being laid off of work.

Best of luck to you Dave, I know what it's like to switch careers in the blink of an eye, but you should have no problems picking up on HVAC! If you can restore an old set you can do anything!
