No actually the whole rubber tire was loose and there were windings sticking out everywhere. As soon as I touched it the whole thing disintigrated. Too bad, and the boards were extremely brittle and when I took the Vert and Horiz osc tubes out the board cracked apart... Chassis is smoked. Wonder if anyone has a spare chassis. The good thing is that I fixed my other magnavox combo. I might take that chassis and swap it into this set! I left the CRT on last night, blue and green came back, red was weak, I used the rejuv button on the red just once, red came back with force, it's reading strong now, a bit above blue and green and holding.

The TV has the orig magnavox tube as far as I can tell. It's got a magnavox label on the crt

I noticed the "green halo" on the tube. I wonder if it's an original Magnavox or a newer one (like a Zenith).

I have a '65 Maggie combo w/ french provincial cabinet. I also have the green halo, the CRT has been replaced with a Sylvania Color Bright '85. Most of the cataract plagued Maggies I've seen with the original CRT have the black "mold like" symptom.

Hi,

The Achilles heel on Maggie TV sets is the Blankety-Blank Flybacks. Most of these had many replacements throughout their lives. Made me good money when I was young.

It seems like the flybacks may be susceptible to trouble but I wonder what the most likely cause of the flyback stress is? Excess horizontal output tube current draw or HV regulator problems? I've got one Magnavox table model with a similar chassis and there were problems in the 6BK4 grid/cathode circuit which were causing the flyback to overheat (burning smell)
I was able to fix it and reduce the current draw in the 6BK4 circuit to the normal 800-1000 microamps and it seems to be operating OK now.

On another Mag. console with a similar chassis the 6BK4 was drawing so much current there was no picture. It was just loading down the HV too much. It seems like it needed a new 6BK4 plus repairs to the grid/cathode circuit

Does anyone happen to have a spare chassis? I would love to make both of these sets work.. If you dont, a spare flyback and a spare horiz osc board that incorperates the vertical and pincushion circuits would be a big help!

Well here is the set in operation, watching Family Guy of course, I love that show! lol, well as you can see, the 25GP22 puts out a raster, not the best I have seen, the 23EGP22 looked way better, but it does work and all 3 guns read into the good range. Wonder if the crt protecive glass has something to do with that, my 67 Zenith at home has the same CRT, but the pic is much clearer and not washy like this one. I know the chassis is good because it's the same chassis that powered the 23EGP22. The yoke is not the same although. Convergence in this one has been a nightmare and is still not that great. Could that be the yoke as well?

Now it looks absolutly flawless! Finessed convergence tweaks and found some tubes bad in the AGC section.
