Hey guys, I opened up the HV cage yesterday and ould the flyback looked ok, normal wax puddle under the flyback (ive seen this with every vintage set I have seen or worked on so far) and on the end there is a bar that had some material melted off. Not sure what it is, but it still works... The horiz shrinking must be a bad tube...

check and replace all your caps. like you did your other set, and check the emissions of all your tubes.
THEN go play with your set ;-) |

Hey if this 23EGP22 was replaced in 1977, does this mean that the tube's quality and life might be better and increased due to the technology advance throught the years?

Did you confirm that the replacement tube is a 23EGP? My biggest concern is that is a cheapo rebuild. Hopefully it's okay, though.

Yeah, it deffinitly is a 23EGP22, it's labeled on the crt and is made by a company called Photo-Optic. The tube has no cataracts at all.
