Help correcting a Sony CRT TV’s distorted image
Hello all, first time posting here.
I have a flat 24” Sony Trinitron TV which works quite well and has a set of components inputs, which makes it suitable for my needs. I have a scart to component converter box and I’m hooking up old consoles like the Super Famicom, Genesis, PSX, etc, via SCART (CSYNC). I am getting RGB chips for each console to clean up the image as much as possible, to install at some point in the near future (aka “bypass” etc.) One thing is that the top edge of the image is slanted, and there’s a horizontal line above it. I haven’t run a grid pattern, but I’m pretty sure there are other things. The image in general looks good to me, but I noticed that blue text on the interstitial screens of Street Fighter II on Super Famicom to the right by a few pixels. Although I haven’t compared different consoles to see if I could see the same problem, to confirm that it is the TV and not the Super Famicom itself (no RGB bypass installed yet) I’m planning to discharge it, follow safety procedures, and replace capacitors, etc Whatever takes to fix the image issues. I have a replacement TV remote for it coming in the mail, which I think will give me more controls, possibly even getting into some service mode I’ve heard about, but I’m not 100% sure this TV has one of these. I would love to get expert advice on what I should try. I truly appreciate everyone’s help. It would be nice to use this TV before I go hunt down another one. In fact, I got this one for a few dollars at a local thrift store, which is pretty cool. Model: Sony KV-24FV300 I posted a phone picture, but I plan to set up a DSLR with correct exposure to better capture the geometry issues. Note: I do not have Judy knowledge in electronics. I’m comfortable with soldering, but my experience has mainly been with making (a ton of) audio cables, audio patch bays, and some kit assembly (think Adafruit, Arduino etc). Update: link to a quick phone photo. I plan to set a DSLR up with proper exposure settings etc to best document the issues

Original source is NTSC composite, correct?
I don't see anything wrong with this picture that would be corrected by replacing parts. Some adjustment of the geometry might be possible, but correcting one edge may throw off the others. You need to check it with a regular video source (DVD) that doesn't have black borders and see if there is anything objectionable. |

Good to know re: not a parts replacement issue Since I posted, I’ve been saving videos talking about convergence strips and magnets, to correct similar issues. These helped me understand a lot about the subject. Good idea re: different source. I will try a video source |
