I would not give up on it until you can get the socket off completely, and check the wires at the CRT going in for the heaters, if they STILL check open THEN ALL IS LOST,
 otherwise there just may be REALLY crappy solder work that could be fixed by CAREFULLY removing the socket and threading back on.
