Looking for service info on a japanese set

I have a japanese (NEC) made Packard Bell set that I am trying to find service data on. I picked this up in june but i cant find anything on it.

Any help would be appreciated. I attached pics of the set. Model would be a C95266 WAL

Are you sure that is the right model number? It looks like a P-B model, but according to the internet it doesn't exist. Is there maybe a chassis number?

If you have access to a Sams collection look through all the P-B sets for a similar in the date range. Note that Sams has no TV's from NEC of that age that I can see.

No, I do not have access to any Sams. Therein lies the problem. All I know is it appears to be an NEC made set.

Welcome to my struggle. That is the correct model number, and I cannot find the actual NEC information on this set, nor its chassis number.

There is a short somewhere in this set, but the CRT is marginal as far as tests are concerned, and I cant find a replacement either so i need to determine if I am going to fix it or not. Without the service data though, I am flying blind.

I picked this one up plus a couple others from the boiling springs trip i took from a TV shop building that was being sold off to a new owner.

It looks, smells & tastes like a NEC. NEC printed the boards with
a big NEC marking & all I remember had NEC branded tubes.
At this point get an RCA, GE, or Sylvania tube manual. that will
at least give you the tubes use, specs & pin outs. Curtis Mathes
( C-M ) also used a lot of NECs so you can look there. All the
others I saw were from unknown brands. I NEVER seen a NEC branded set
with tubes, the NEC branded sets suddenly appeared in the mid 80's.
& sold very well at the high end stores.

If I didn't know better I'd almost say it was either a Toshiba or Matsushita derivative from the early 70's as they were still doing tubes until the Quintrix days. I remember seeing this type of set in my youth as the LH HV cap got me.
Would have become an Xmas break challenge for me back then. I really liked them and had both an Ambassador 19" and Panasonic "swivel set" with the controls on the bottom and the top on a ball mount.

I can't see what the label on the left above the power connector reads, NEC used to go by Nippon in the early days, had a 3/4" VTR marked NEC with the label reading Nippon Electric Co Ltd.

BTW what is the problem with the set ??

i thought i mentioned in an earlier post. There is a short somewhere. im sure its capacitor related, etc. but i wish i had the service info or at least schematic. because its going to have the parts diagram and values, such as if i ran into a fried resistor, id be screwed trying to determine its value.

Personally I'd carefully pull the chassis and do a good cleaning then triage the components replacing electrolytic and tubular paper caps while keeping a close eye for the burnt carbon resistors especially around the power handling tubes as they get baked well. I wouldn't worry about the pix emissions at this point, get the chassis stabilized first, it can be done without a manual and you have one of the best service tools in your hand... the camera on your phone.
Certainly wouldn't mind finding a set like that.

Yeah i will do all that, and yeah i figured that. I just was hoping there may have been some service data out there that someone has. thats all.

And also yeah these sets arnt exactly common, thats for sure. I picked this up with a few others at a place local to me that Shango066 and radiotvphononut got their start on years and years ago. They were doing a purge off in the summer before they had to turn the old building over to the new owners. The warehouse my still be there but im pretty sure those tabletops are long gone.

I'm pretty sure I have seen a Sam's more similar to it than that.

Tomorrow night I'll flip through my color duplicates (back when I got rid of my duplicates I kept the color folders, FM MPX adapter folders, and any folders for sets I owned) and see if it's in there.

That's legacy technology. I'd check the sound output tube first. Then the Horizontal output and damper.
Yes, a good visual is important. Might be a paper clip, bobbie pin or even a penny laying on the circuit board.
At one time, NEC said they were going to pull out of the North American market saying it was too competitive.
Not many people know this, but NEC made transmitters also. Big ones like 100KW. TV61 in Chattanooga had one.

Woah that looks like it is it. do you have a digital copy of it somewhere?

The only reference to that model number I found was in a Feb 1971 Electronic World.

WAL at the end likely means walnut finish so I left it out and found that result.
