In the USA there are still some cable TV providers who supply analog channels (Time Warner Cable's South East Wisconsin trunk, which I'm on, for instance), but they are becoming a rare breed. Many cable companies are phasing analog out for increased internet bandwidth, more digital HD channels, etc.

The Comcast little black cigarette pack size DTA cableboxes output the MTS stereo signal on ch3 or 4 with the built in modular for the old sets.

I would like to know what kind of IC modulator chip they are using inside.Or less its a part of the DSP chip.

Well if you have one unscrew the top and start asking Google for datasheets for the chips in them....If there is no soldered shielding blocking your view of the line between the RF out and modulator chip, then it should be easy to find the modulator. As long as no soldering happens you won't hurt it opening it for a look....

I've never seen one, but would love to know what chip one of those uses too.

Yea I would love to pop it open but I dont want to get shot from the cable company.I was hoping some photo show up online of the insides.

If you put it back together and don't break it, they will never know or care that you opened it...Come on you know you want to know what is in there as bad as the rest of us.

If I had a box that interesting I'd look inside it, cable co be damned.

Say, could you post the maker and model number of that box? I bet if I had that info I could find a cheap second hand one online to buy to dismantle to satisfy my curiosity.
