Latest thrift find...
I found this cute little 1965 model GE set at a thrift store a few days ago...
Set does NOT work, but all tubes light. All tubes except tuner are compactrons. Hot chassis of course..and I normally do NOT like hot portable sets. But it just looked SO lonely sitting there. Besides..the Pix tube tests like NEW--a 19VABP4 IIRC. ALL tests..cutoff, emissions and life.>ALL perfect. In FACT...tube tests good on emissions at 4.5 volts on fil !! WIll VERY likely bring this 16 incher to the swap ,meet next week... |

Worth more if it works. Probably just the 5.6 ohm & rectifier.

S-? Chassis - good sets. Back in the day, they were the sets in the Kitchen or a lucky kids' room. If the antenna rod was broken, we assumed the set was in the kids room...

THINK ,....it said "EA Chassis"..Mostly on a PCB, I think only 9 tubes, No HV cage to speak of..

A very common problem on those was the H osc. coil getting torn partway out of the board, due to someone jamming the back on without lining up the stem with the hole.

I saw some careless tech's?, damage the CRT neck, by forcing the back on or off of a set.

That reminds me of when I guy who I knew years ago (he is DEAD now--from prescription drugs..)..was "working " on an IBM monitor I thnk...and he was having trouble getting the rear cover off. IIRC...It had some WEIRD tabs or something holding it together...and he was having trouble getting it off. So..he just decided to YANK it off..pulling it UP from the bottom...and OVER the neck of the tube...He tugged and grunted and THEN......HHHSSSSSSSS...came from the monitor !!
I could NOT help laughing.!! he just said...welll...it needs a PICTURE TUBE.. I said..Yeah...it does NOW "!! |

Broken ant. could as easily be a kitchen set. I've seen 2-3 antennas die at the hands of my mom...

GE used that same basic cabinet design for years. I have a late '70's 15" solid state GE, using the XB chassis, that's in that same basic style cabinet.
