Decided to use this set in the bedroom....with a 19" picture tube and a slim profile, it's perfect. Watched the election coverage on it the other night. I had it run through the agile modulator, but decided to hook it up to a DTV converter box just for grins.

After I got done hooking it up, I turned it on, and wait a minute, no warmup time!

I never had it left plugged in before, but it turns out this IS an instant on model. Time to pull the back and get that situation corrected....

Tim, I had one just like that but the UHF knob was on the left side - it looked good too.
Sold it to Dave A for $5, so it might be used to show archive video of Phillies Games from teh early 70s.

When I was 19 and in tech school, I had the fortune to work at an Admiral Dealer in Allentown, who sold Admiral up to the end before adding Sony to his Zenith store.
Having experience with the late 60s Admiral sets impressed him but he asked, "what if you open one up and there are no tubes or modules", when i said I learned to fix Sony's at the last place, then he hired me.

My experiences were similar to Zeno's as I remember changing some really sick-looking CRTs. I was very sad to see Admiral go.

I have an Era II chassis up in the attic, rescued from a former Admiral dealer, this one had knob tuning. Never could stand to toss it. I had a late 70s 19" Admiral that was pretty cheap but worked well; gave that one to some friends.

All I did was snip the diode on the back of the on/off/vol switch, and all's good!

Weird thing though, when you shut the set off now, the horizontal oscillator slows down to a flip-flip-flip-flip, then it shuts off. Kinda neat really.

That's interesting. Possibly the H.osc runs off B Boost like the generically-similar GE portables. Delayed bleed-down of the Boost might be causing the effect.
