The BBC
I've found myself watching and enjoying a large number of British shows lately, besides of course, Dr Who, the list includes:
Downton Abbey Upstairs Downstairs (2010 version, unfortunately cancelled after season 2) Sherlock, really love this modern take on the classic Detective! London Hospital, drama about the London Hospital around the turn of the century. Lark Rise to Candleford, a really well done drama about a Female Postmaster in the Town of Candleford and the neighboring Village of Lark Rise. Whitechapel, a little less enthusiastic about this one but it's still interesting. It basically deals with the Police Detectives dealing with Copycat crimes based on classic crimes like Jack the Ripper. Keeping Up Appearances, this is an Comedy oldie from 1990-95, about the most annoying Woman in the world, she likes to think she's royalty but is really just common folk. Her name is Bucket but she tells everyone it's "Bouquet" ![]() Any others I should be looking for? (please, no Monty Python or Benny Hill )

One of my favorite bits of British TV was the 1979 Thames miniseries "Danger UXB". It tells the story of a Royal Engineers bomb disposal team during WW2, as they work out how to defuse Hitler's bombs during and after the blitz.

I second Danger UXB. You can see the opening on a VT71 in my very first YouTube video
http://youtu.be/vrbd95fuBTo Survivors is also great. The original 1970s series - not the recent remake. It's about survivors of a global epidemic struggling to rebuild society. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072572/ http://youtu.be/GH6us7DLaRk There's also The Omega Factor from 1979 featuring Louise Jameson (Leela) from Dr Who. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078665/ http://youtu.be/DARojQpyu9A Last edited by bandersen; 03-21-2013 at 02:27 PM. |

I sort of remember Danger UXB, I think I caught it back when it was originally on, very tense as I recall.

Almost forgot - if you're looking for something more contemporary, give Doc Martin a try.

Yes, he is rather similar to House. The supporting cast and setting are quite a bit different though. It's been running on our local PBS station for a couple years now.

BBC has some great shows, but many of them can not be seen in the USA. The BBC website offers live streaming, but when they detect a foreign IP address, they refuse to allow you to connect.
BBC TWO aired live coverage of the enthronment of the new Archbishop of Canterbury last Thursday, but there was no way to watch it live in the USA. Thankfully, many BBC shows are posted to YouTube pretty quickly. |

There's a bit of Irony that Dr House was played by Hugh Laurie who is British, he does a perfect American accent though. |

Glad you like it. I just remembered a couple other recent shows.
Jonathon Creek - An amusing series about a magician / detective. Blood in the Wire - A rather grim series about a psychiatrist consultant to the police. |

This show is hilarious. Manlab, full of dry British humor.

Are You Being Served? A great comedy. Be sure to see it from the first show.
Keeping Up Appearances.... Everybody wants to tel Hyacinth Bucket to buzz off, but she hears nothing. I really like her sisters Daisy and Rose and their stories. Good stuff all the way!! |
