If it's an electronic tuner (has a row of channel numbers along the right edge of the mask), it has actually 12 or 14 separate tuners; each one can be set to any channel. There is either a thumb wheel or a small adjustment stem for each channel. Some thumb wheel models had a slide switch to tell it whether you want to set that channel for VHF-lo,VHF-hi, or UHF, and the turn-stem models had an outer ring on each stem to switch bands.
