I used to actually CARRY the oldest 1010 as was intended...but that made it REAL unreliable as it gets tossed around. The 1030 showed up pristine in it's own box....so I keep it safe on a shelf and don't mess with it. I do have it come on with the little X10 power controller that turns on that whole bookcase of small sets though.

For sure, the tube shown next to Panasonic is an electrostatic deflection CRT (note the fat neck) from a Sinclair TV (try to find one of those that works !) for size comparison.

I used the one pictured as a "rooftopper" for several years, and it once slid down a roof and landed on a sidewalk below. I picked the parts (scattered over about a 5 foot area) and stuck it back together, but it is still pretty "rough" looking.

I have a near mint 1030P from1983.

I got a 1EP2 NOS CRT from Fair Radio once...It was a cylindrical style tube, w/a roughly nickel/quarter sized face, which apparently was ground flat...I gave it away to somebody at AK years ago, I THINK he was gonna make a CRT clock outta it or somesuch. I tried to get another one from Fair, but they were gone. I THINK Richardson made it, & it had umpteen tiny little pins sticking out of the back...

I had posted that about the tube being "wrong" before looking at that GREAT thread...so I thought it was supposed to be the tube that was inside the 1010. After actually SEEING the thread though, a REAL nice collection of the little Sony paddle crt. I didn't even know there were two different flat Sony crt at the time. I have the little 10A and more recently a bright PINK little FD-42A. I thought the pink was so unusual...because I could see NO reference to a pink 42A with Google. I have seen the weird geometry these sets have when you put a crosshatch on them, but they seem to be perfectly watchable for the casual viewer. I have another one that I think is an "FD 2A". All of these are of the curved paddle type...so was NOT aware of the rather unusual electrostatic crt.

I use the little FD-10A almost daily in the front room just to see that my inhouse transmitter IS up and running. It just sits on the coffeetable.

I once wigged out one of my friends who picked it up and laughed at why I had such a stupid thing next to all my remotes. I just turned it on casually and said "Of COURSE it works.....looks like Lost in Space is on". He had no idea of the inhouse media player and had him thinking some REAL old station was on the air...and playing OLD stuff...complete with commercials for the Chevrolet Corvair and VW Beatle :P

Seller says it's B&W, since when is an XL-100 a B&W set?
You can see the Color & Tint controls on the side if you use the Zoom.

I have that little pink Sharp 3" color set in my watched list on ebay......but $200 between BIN and shipping is deffinately too rich for me for now.

There is a little pink Magnavox Shadow I'm gonna try and add to my little collection of the two other shadows, but it has gathered a bidder since I started this thread.

Love that pic of the three 42A sets. That is deffinately the little pink one I found about a month ago. Runs REALLY good, but have to admit to thinking there was a geometry problem with it and at least took the back off to clean it up. Turns out this was about the time I really became aware of the so-so linearity of these. I got it dialed in pretty good, but I guess there is only so much you can do with such an odd crt angle. You had a pic in the other thread of a crosshatch on one of these....and it pretty much matched what I have on both the 10A and 42A.

An XL-100 would actually be a GIGANTIC set in "my" collection. Biggest thing I have is the little 12" GE I got at the swap meet a few weeks ago. It's not even really in the display shelves because it would DWARF all the little micros. It lives in the kitchen, on a counter being a daily driver. Even the Sony S8-301 was a bit big for the display shelves...so it has it's own place in the front room. It's a bit fussy, so it only sees action if I wanna sit there and babysit it while watching it.

LOL @ the pic of an abysinian watching a little red 10A. My cats would just casually look at the sets...but I think the horizontal output squeel bugged 'em. They would usually run off if you actually set the TV in front of 'em. You can see in my avatar that the Sony AIBO robots LOVE to watch TV....but sadly, it's just the frame flicker that just draws their attention. I can keep that robot equally entertained by turning on a ceiling fan :P

I felt that I was "priced out" of the pink Sharp market and settled for a nice white one. Not the attention getter of the pink, but still an interesting piece for the collection. If I am not mistaken, I think Sandy_G has all 3 colors...very cool!

Yeah- I got the Pepto-Bismol colored one about 10 yrs ago for like $20 or somesuch. I have the black & ivory models, too, but they were LOTS more moolah. DON'T have-and can't remember if I've ever even seen- the silver/grey version. But I also have the RCA-clone, which uses a different case.

BUMMER!!

I was looking at the little CRT with the broken focus pin through some reading glasses and one of those "helping hands" thing with the magnifying glass.....and the SECOND I went to feel with a small phillips screwdriver to see if I coud "feel" the remainder of the pin....I necked the little nub in the middle (all in THAT order pretty much)

I forgot I had pretty much NO depth perception with all the magnification....and I pretty much SMACKED the back of the thing RIGHT away with the screwdriver.

NOW I guess I'm done with that little set for now....until I find another CRT for the poor little thing. At least I know from subbing one of the Maggie CRTs from a Shadow the other day, that all it needs is the little CRT.

Ouch !! Do those l'il guys make that "Hissing" noise as they go to air ? I feel for ya, pal...That's one reason I don't work on 'em, I have HUGE ginormous paws, bad enuff in & of themselves, plus bein' TERMINABLY clumsy, & to top it off, I've lost a lot of dexterity due to a stroke, & Dear Old Uncle Arthur...

Yeah...made a small hiss, but wasn't very long at all. The crack of the glass was MUCH more apparent

Hope Eric is still open to me maybe getting that little parts CRT he had laying around. Still open to buy it from him, shipping...or whatever. I'm WATCHING a little pink Magnavox Shadow I really want on the ebay.....but obviously THAT is not gonna be a parts set. Not by a LONG shot! That one has a place RIGHT next to all three of these little "cube" sets.

I'll feel MUCH better about what I done to this poor little guy when I know he'll be reborn into a little TRIO of the little cuties
