Two Great Flea Market Finds: Sears 5028 and Philco Ford N1052BK

When it rains it pours...I picked up not one but two great old B&W TV sets today. The Sears 5028 is a combination Alarm Clock/AM/FM/TV in a veneer cabinet. It powers up and everything works. I think it's really cool but am not sure what the market would be for this item back in the '60s, since it only has an 8" screen and must have been pretty expensive. The other one I've been trying to find for years -- the Ford/Lincoln/Mercury factory accessory TV for cars! I have a '68 Cougar and this TV is listed in the accessory brochure. It also powers up but I haven't been able to hook it up to cable yet -- I need to wire up an adapter to it. I can't wait to enjoy them both!

That Philco was/is? in big demand among Mustang owners, they sell for big bucks on eBay!

I know...it was an accessory for any FoMoCo car back in the mid to late '60s. I wish I had the bracket that would hold it on a seatback or inner trim panel for backseat viewing.

The Sears was likely a swanky bedside item. Hey ! I have a bedside clock/radio ! Oh, yeah ? Well, MINE has a TV, too...N'yah, n'yah...

Love that Sears "console". I see those come up on eBay every once in awhile, but they get up there in price, and then the shipping kills it and it becomes a $200 set. I saw that little FoMoCo one a couple years ago at our San Diego classic car swap meet. It was alongside what looked like a Sony 303 that was marketted as a Mercedes Benz in-car TV.

Thought they were trippy to look at, but I've been into modern "ICE" (In-Car Entertainment) designs for years, and don't currently own any "classic" car....or I woulda jumped allover these, especially that Sony.

I do have two "bedside" TV sets. One is a little 4" Magnavox AM/FM with a blue flourescent clock. The other is a great little panasonic micro that superimposes a small blue clock right over the bottom corner of the 1.5" screen with mirrors! I do also now have an actual indash car stereo by some odd brand....that has a 1.5" b/w CRT right on the front of it. That would be my only actual "car TV" I own yet, but I actually run it from a 12V power supply in the bedroom sorta "installed" in the bed's cabinetery (It's just sitting in a cabinet with an old school annoying "spectrum analyzer" style equalizer...VERY '80s)

Yeah-My '65 Lincoln Lehmann-Petersen limo has a console in the back that has a place to plug in a Sony 5-303 series set. Those were quite the "Chi-chi" items back in the mid-60s...

I think you did very well with these! I've never seen a Sears combo like that; but, GE made a 12" combo that used a 5-tube AM radio. I think Westinghouse also made a version with a record changer. I'd like to find something like this; but, the only places I see them are ebay and when shipping is added to the usually high bid amount, it makes it not worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Good Job! I did not realize you could have that accessory in more that a Lincoln.

That Philco is made by Toshiba, I think.
Mine seems to have a bad tuner but makes a nice raster.

I have a 1971 9" Philco made in Taiwan, a totally different set.

I like your Philco, Dave -- looks like great little set. I have to do a bit of cleaning on each of these, they have scratchy volume controls.

Was that set tube or SS and could it be run off the car's electrical system?

FoMoCo: don't get the F and the M mixed up now. LOL.

The Philco car accessory TV is 100% solid state. With an optional adapter, which I don't have (!), it could run off the car's electrical system.
