My set was sold as a Rocket television. But I think Egawadenki Kenkyusho
made several private label TV sets. So why don't put in a radio also?

Wow, that chassis really looks like an 8" RCA 8-PT-7030 portable.

Here is the manual and technical description from the 8HL tv.
This will cover the TV part from your set also.

I'm also looking for the schematics. But I did not found it...

@ fsjonsey
Maybe the japanese designers used the RCA as model?

Not always true. Many labels are in english anyway, even in cars that are right-hand drive only sold in Japan. The thing to look for with electronics is if it was made to run on 100v ac instead of 120v.

Either way, nice score Bob. I think it's cute.

Whats up with the Japanese sets and the tube seat belts? They even do it on the vertical chassis. I have never seen a tube fall out of a set. Its like Zenith using silicone on the later stuff to hold the tubes in. Maybe that was just to identify the OE tubes

LOL! I noticed that too. I guess it could be overcautiousness or over-engineneering, either way, it's unnecessary.

I've seen Japanese and European stuff with those retainers as well, but you gotta consider that Loctals were quite popular here until smaller stuff came out.

When I received my RCA 8 inch portable set it was not working although the seller claimed it was in the auction listing. It turned out that the horizontal output tube fell completely out of its socket during shipping. Those little retainers on Japanese tube sets might have been put there just to keep the tubes secure for shipment.

Hello Bandersen,

I'm glad I could help a little here. For now we have the same
information I think. I hope to find the schematics too.

I've asked on the antique radios forum about this set.
I also mentioned your set. But untill now I don't have any reply on it.

Funny, some people are talking about the tube seatbelts.
The clamp for the line output valve doesn't even touch the tube.
Well, put it in anyway, it looks nice. There are also some other tubes in
this set which doesn't have belts at all. Over engineered? I don't know.

Regards, Roland

Hello,

I've made two drawings of the tubes used in my Rocket TV.
Some tubes differ from the documents.

My set is working again. I had to realign the set completely.
If you are interested you can see the set and story on youtube:

Thank you for the tube chart and video and congratulations on getting your set working. I hope to start working on mine in the fall.

Remember, this is a portable set, prone to getting bumped and banged around a lot, the Seat Belts were probably to prevent the tubes from coming loose during rough handling, as well as thousands of miles of shipping.

My little Japanese set had a tube knocked out during shipping also, OK, it was shipped by UPS and probably treated a little rougher than it would have been originally.

Then again most Dock Workers look like a pretty rough bunch, they probably weren't all that careful either.

That's a good point, Eric. Last year, I worked on a small container ship for a couple of months. Those containers get banged around quite a bit when loading and unloading the ship.... especially in little 3rd world countries where "safety" is not as important as getting the ship in and out of port as quickly as possible. I can just imagine what it was like 40 or 50 years ago... probably far worse than today.

In addition, back in those days, most of the ship's crew was drunk anyhow!!
