I see they are running the remastered shows, yuk, sorry IMHO should have left it alone. some how the altered ship and planets just don't quite fit, looks way to CGI. How arrogant to think that needed to be done.

The special effects such as when they are orbiting planets or flying through space were redone with modern technology. What's seen on the viewscreen inside the ship is also redone in some cases. They did not redo any of the creatures in rubber suits however, nor did they add any like George Lucas did, those were left alone

On the Bluray set of ST you have the option of watching them either way, original or with new effects.

I opted to watch them with the new effect this time because I had seen the old ones already.

I actually thought it was well done, not so excessive to be jarring but made it look much more contemporary. Let's face it, the old effects were pretty hokey sometimes.

Thanks for the explanation - I didn't remember seeing redone SFX. I do recall reruns that looked like they had been transferred to 1 inch analog, with a large amount of grain reduction and noise reduction. Maybe those were the new SFX also, but I didn't realize it.

I can't get it, according to their website, Me TV isn't coming to Memphis until Nov. 14.

But I've seen all the original Star Treks so many times now though. And, to me at least, none of the new Star Trek series really lived up to the original. Although there was a Star-Trek-like program on a few years ago called Andromeda that I liked.

kirk was the orig cowboy, and got the chicks, picard was a diplomat, he seemed the more realistic captain, and voyager was good with 7 of 9. the borg really were a good villain.


I too find the orig the best, cheezy sets and all, the one where they fought the Earp's was classic, looks like it was filmed in a garage with kids making the sets, but it was still great, and I think the cheap sets actually played into the story line, very imaginative way to work that in.

I like to watch Perry Mason just for the cars, Perry had so many great cars, particularly in the earlier seasons.

Perry Mason, an honest ethical Lawyer, Science Fiction at it's best.
Actually he's not entirely ethical, he'll do some slightly underhanded things to help his clients and thwart the Prosecutor, Hamilton Burger (i.e. HamBurger, get the joke?)

hmmm considering the era that show was made in, I think I know the answer.

I believe Perry lost only one case during the entire run of the show.

A bit of Trivia: Perry's Detective Friend, Paul Drake was played by William Hopper, son of gossip-columnist Hedda Hopper.

Memphis does have Antenna TV on channel 3.3 (subchannel of CBS WREG-TV) as I saw on TV Guide's website, so even if your area isn't scheduled to get MeTV for another 11 days you can still see a few classic TV programs. I live near Cleveland and my area didn't get MeTV until last summer. MeTV is a very new classic-TV network and is still in the process of signing up affiliates; I looked at their website recently and also found that the launch of MeTV in Memphis won't be until the 14th, but it is coming to your area, very soon now. The company that operates MeTV now states the network is seen in some 45 percent of American homes with digital cable and/or flat panel TVs with ATSC clear-QAM tuners, so it's growing--maybe not by leaps and bounds, but slowly, anyway.

You will find that once the network arrives in your area, it will have been well worth the wait; MeTV has, IMHO, some of the best classic TV series around, such as The Rifleman, Bonanza, Hawaii Five-O, Cannon, et al. One of my personal favorites is Cannon, on MeTV at 11 a.m. EST; I watched the program when it was new in the '70s and am enjoying seeing the shows again in reruns. Beats the pants off a lot of what passes for drama, IMHO, on television these days.

I would really like to see a retro tv channel that would pick up MTV early years, that was a lot of fun.

oh and how about Johnny Carson from the beginning, that would be fantastic.

anybody here remember watching "the midnight special" on Saturday nights.
