2 Zeniths at Wheaton Estate Sale

Stopped by an estate sale in Wheaton today that had two Zeniths that might be worth saving. A mid 60's B/W console upstairs in decent shape, it has the projection VHF tuner knob. In the basement is a later run Chomacolor II portable. There is also a '67 LeMans that they are taking bids on. The sale is at 0N675 Morse. It is just off Geneva road by Wheaton North High School. The house a wreck, appears to have been unoccupied, with water damage presumably for a pipe leak.

Too bad I'm pretty busy. I would've liked to stop by. What year did you say the Chromacolor II was?

I'd guess the CCII is from '78 or so. It is a lower end model, w/o dial lights. I think it was priced at $5. I'd been more interested, but I got one very similar and this set looked kind of moldy.

By the way, speaking of Wheaton, I found out that Ron's TV closed its shop last year, and now it's being operated out of the house. This is what they told me when I called with some problems with the RCA. That's too bad. At least there are some estate sales still selling old sets.

Yes Ron's TV shop was a fixture at the corner of Hale and Liberty. I stopped in to look around when they were going out of business in December of 2008. I guess the landlord was raising the rent; now it is just an empty store front. It's too bad to see the store closed. They were pretty helpful to the do it your selfer. I bought parts there a couple of times and always got good advice. The funny thing is, the present owner wasn't Ron. He just kept the name, I think the business had been his father's in law and I don't think his name was Ron.
