that is what I was thinking, a little to clean in the cab design.
I like delta gun CRT sets. Does anyone know when the Deltas were phased out? |

I think around 1980, depending on brand.

Reminds of of listening to an older person state years of past events inwhich they make mistakes in 10 year blocks and I have to keep saying: "...you mean 1985?" every time they say 1975, etc. I sure am glad history is recorded and not just discussed orally. I mean I am glad for the recorded history that is accurate.

There is also the tendancy for people to refer to their distant past with the expression
'twenty years ago'. Like 'twenty years ago, before men had set foot on the moon', or 'twenty years ago, when there were no nuclear power plants', etc. Last edited by electroking; 07-21-2010 at 02:06 PM. Reason: corrected spelling |

That set is probably from the early '80's with a single board chassis and inline CRT.
I think 1980 was the very last year for RCA to use delta gun CRT's. And, those last delta gun RCA CRT's were not that great. It seems that most of the ones I see are either weak or shorted. I've got a '79 19" RCA with a delta gun tube and it has an RCA Hi-Lite tube in it that was installed in 1980. So, the original tube didn't last long in that one. Zenith used them up until '79 in the last chromacolor II consoles. The newest delta gun set that I've seen was, IIRC, an '81 Teknika console that I think was actually built by Wells-Gardner. I think most of the other major brands phased out delta gun tubes in their consoles during the '79-'80 time period. Many of the smaller screen sets started going inline in the '74-'76 time period. |

Tell me about it! I graduated 20 years ago-how could that be??? '88 Chevy trucks with historic plates? Kids I went to school with becoming grandparents? I'm still young, right?
My uncle bought an RCA like that sometime in the early 80s. It was the first RCA product that I got to play with hands-on. He gave it to me over the winter and part of me really wanted to keep it, but I just couldn't justify the space. I might regret that someday.

I got my first tube radio (still have it) in '89 and it's hard to believe that was 21 years ago. My neighbor recently put an antique tag on his '84 GMC truck. Heck, I remember when they were sold new! I graduated from high school in '95 and one of my classmates married a man that's about ten years her senior. His daughter by a previous marriage just had a baby and my former classmate was on facebook talking about being a grandmother (at 33). Now, that really hit hard as I'm 33 with no kids, no wife, no GF, and life is pretty much like it was 15 years ago, except for slightly less hair and slightly more fat. I'm getting old, like it or not; but, I still consider myself to be richly blessed.
