Philco 50T-1403 in PA

Another Philco available for local pickup in PA.
I have a 50T-1401 and 50T-1402. Heavy buggers, but an interesting design. Loktals in TVs

Looks like he's got quite a collection of good things - most of which not for sale unfortunately. I wouldn't mind that old zenith console with the magic eye!

I hate loctal tubes, I replaced the loctals in my Phlico (7N7's) with octal tubes (6SN7's). It's a 51T-1634.

It's yours to do with as you like, knock yourself out, but I have to say that's probably the single most unnecessary modification I've ever heard of.

I considered that briefly, when repairing a vertical problem on the same model Philco... I could not find any 7N7s in my tube stash, but have many 6SN7s ... turns out they are easily found on eBay, and seem to be cheaper than 6SN7s. Several sellers seem to be selling converter sockets so that 7N7s can be used to replace 6SN7s... rather than the other way around. Perhaps the "tube amp" folks are really sucking up the supply of 6SN7s.

However, It took a new 6S4 (also from eBay) and a couple of caps to restore full height.

The reasons stated above are exactly why I did it, but I also don't like click in tubes. Call me crazy, but I haven't done a thing to that set since that time.

My grandma had one of these Philco TV sets. Picture dates back to Xmas 1951.

The seller's real name is Scott, I bought an EMUD console off of him a few weeks ago. Really nice guy, never said anything about this.....if it doesn't get crazy I might throw a bid at it BTW he is selling of his collection to fund his new found ham fascination.

Cool picture. It's fun to see vintage sets in their original setting.
