I finally looked at this 1957 RCA clock radio I got when I started this thread. I had assumed the clock was like the others I had seen, where the mechanism is sealed, but that wasn't totally the case here, couldn't get it totally apart, but got a cover off and got in there enough to squirt some WD40 in there, which so far has quieted it down.

The radio portion had a corner broken off the circuit board, but I glued it back together with super glue, waited until I was sure it was dry, then just added solder across the one trace that went across the corner, I was going to add a wire in it's place, but it soldered up good, so I left it like that. Other than new caps, the radio just needed a new 50C5 to replace the one in there with an open filament. Now I finally have a good old, quiet clock radio.

I've got that same clock radio... except the clock's face is black i think. Yours is in better condition than mine. Both clock and radio on mine work... but the radio could use a little work.

Does that disk on the back of the radio spin out in the open? I've seen a couple of clocks like that but not, so far, in a radio.

That's a nice looking radio you have there. Very clean.

The cover you see on the back of the clock pries off, and then you can see some of what's moving in there. I ran it for a couple hours after I got it working, and the clock started to get a little noisy again, then I left it unplugged for a day or so, tried it again, and it was quiet again, but I still left it unplugged. I'm thinking I might try and get some oil in there, rather than just the WD40.
