I think that Philco is from around '72-'73. If it has click stop UHF, probably '74 or so.

They also made a SS version of that Philco using a very similar cabinet. I think the cabinet design was even carried over into the GTE years.

Philco-Ford had some very up-to-date styling in the 70s, but lackluster electronics from what I've seen. Somewhere out there in "googleland" is an article on a 19" hybrid color set that someone found. To look at it, any of us would peg it as very late 70s, maybe early 80s-yet it was actually from around '74 and with tubes.

Hey, I kinda like it for some reason.
Here's the one I have but the pictures are of it all nasty, looks nice now with no writing, glue residue or the like. The back on mine looks the same as the one Bryan mentioned. It seems not too many of the 'ol Philco Fords are around, always wanted one of their cheapy roundies with the tuning eye. http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=173015

Found a 19" GE CTC175L2 stereo TV made in August 1995.
I was going to steal its buttons to put into my RCA CTC187, but the ones in the 175 are angled differently. They'd fit on the 187's board, but I'd never be able to press them. A quick power on shows a bright screen, static looks good, well as good as static will look. Needs a slight focus adjustment, but since the flyback controls are exposed, that might not even be due to its age. Since I can't use its buttons, and already have several Thomson chassis, and since this TV is only a 19 inch one, I think I'll hang onto it just in case. EDIT: Just looked at the degaussing thermistor, and yep, the only thing holding it in place are the leads it connects to. Time to solder in a new one, and what is it with Thomson sets and their degaussing thermistors? Last edited by MRX37; 07-27-2009 at 05:50 PM. |

How about CRT computer monitors since they are in pretty much the same boat. Finally checked out last night my Sun Microsystems CPD-4410 19 incher. Tube is super mint smokes all my other monitors which most are pretty good. And a smokin' deal it was a $2. And just got a NEC FE990-BK. Another nice 19. I see no reason here to go LCD.

The computer I use at work is provided to me by a vendor. They don't give me any more than they have to-I really thought I would get an LCD monitor when they replaced it a couple years ago, but no, just an AOC crt. It would act up every so often and last week I turned it on to find the whole raster compressed into something the size of a Hershey's bar (on its side!) I didn't want to put any time into something that isn't even mine, so I beat on it quite a bit with a wrench. When that didn't work I called my vendor. He sent me one that was sitting around in the store, a sad little monitor from '95. Completely worn out-the only way to get enough focus to be able to read anything was to crank both contrast and brightness all the way down. The longer it stayed on the worse it got. So, I posted a want-ad on freecycle and found the Compaq monitor I'm using now. I like that it's made in Korea, unlike the others which were Chinese wonders. It does have an intermittent-possibly shorting HV? In the meantime my wife found another Compaq crt monitor on the curb. My vendor did say he would reimburse me for the cost of a new one but I find that wasteful, considering all the useable old ones out there.
