Michael Mann, Johnny Depp, Public Enemies

a Michael Mann classic, another in his career long meditation on crime, the psychopath, and our unfailing attraction to it. the bad guy is the good guy, the good guys are the bad guys, and the gun play is absolutely terrific.

i say ignore some of the tepid reviews that have been around and go for it, you won't be disappointed. Depp was simply outstanding---

Thumbs up

Saw it yesterday... Being a WWII and a crime buff, it didn't impress me too much. Solid acting but I guess I know the story too well.

Let us ignore WII comment. He is a crime buff, knows the story and this one did not impress him.

I saw it last night and it is a nice movie...I think it takes some license with History but what movie doesn't...a buddy of mine was in the movie and that's why I went...most of his stuff ended up on the cutting room floor (or in the deleted scenes when the DVD appears???)...my buddy was to have a background role and parlayed that into a speaking part with several scenes (which were cut) as a Chicago Police Detective...not bad for a 50 something who secretly harbored an urge to be in the movies...he's done several small parts in other movies and a commercial since...

Definitely WWII of course, and yes in the 30's. The Browning Automatic Rifle had more stopping power than the Thompson, so the usual arms-race stuff ensued between the G-Men and the criminals. Oh, saw the movie, been to Little Bohemia (great Northwoods bar) and big John Depp fan.

The BAR made its first appearance at the tail end of WW1 & was in use in Vietnam early on as well! Only the M2 has been in service longer.

I have not seen it yet but some of it was filmed in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin...Columbus Wisconsin and Madison Wisconsin....all near me. When the film crew was in Beaver Dam-Johnny Depp sent one of the crew to the high school to buy about 50 of our sweatshirts because they got a kick out of the mascot...Beaver Dam, The Golden Beavers.
I was up in Little Bohemia on my honeymoon. It is very interesting.
