Isn't the band around the crt plastic? It should be a gold colored plastic band that's held in place by a spring with hooks on each end that runs through the neck. The end caps are still available in chrome. I bought one at my local auto parts store for my 21" set and had it brass plated when I had the rest done.

You know, it looked like plastic to me as well, but she said it had been 'rebrassed' and that is why it did not match the rest of the hardware. The band is a much darker orange brass color. Thanks for the auto parts lead-can I just get this at Autozone? What should I ask/look for when there?

Well, the overwhelming opinion is to not remove the board-which being a pretty lazy fellow I am fine with. I repaired an almost identical RCA to Wa2ise's using this method and it was just fine.

You might have to try a hardware store. Look for a place that has those banks of metal drawers full of odds and ends like freeze plugs and side molding clips. Pretty sure they are just called end caps. They are fairly common in furniture and I think people use them as end caps when they make home made tube bumpers for thier trucks etc... They come in three or four different sizes. You can't tell the original from the replacement on my set now that they have both been replated.
