Generation Kill

Watched both episodes and so far it has not really drawn me in.

I read the book a few years ago and liked it.

Have to wait until it hits DVD's as we don't have HBO but I was left with the impression from the previews that "Band of Brothers" it ain't.

It has five more episodes so I am going to give it more time. There are some series (Wire, Rome) which just grabs me early. This is not one of them.

It has the same producer as The Wire... maybe same director. I haven't seen much, but what I saw was okay.

I've seen some of it, but it seems like 12 year olds wrote and directed it. Scenes reminiscent of various war movies and dialog that is just childish and juvenile. Most of it seems pretty anti-authority, like skaters put on kevlar and picked up guns.

One scene there were two guys laying on the ground and one says to the other " Man, lay on your stomach, it feels good when the tank rolls by." Crap, not sure any Marine would actually say that during an invasion.

I had high hopes when I saw the previews, but now I'm pretty much uninterested. Unlike Deadwood, when I first saw that show, I was hooked. I watched season 1 on DVD straight through non stop one weekend, now that was an experience.

VinylHanger I was getting a similar reaction. I was asking myself "Is this how modern marines talk and behavior?".

Watched the 3rd and 4th episodes. I hope this is not representative of the marine force. The lack of discipline was pervasive: they have no respect for their officers tending to question orders and have a lot of gripes.

I'm kinda enjoying it. I've seen the first two episodes.

Reminds me in a way of Robert Altman's "M*A*S*H" -- generally plotless, but having a certain "feeling."
