Found a 2006 RCA dead set today - Videokarma.org TV - Video

Here in Gallatin, Monday is trash day so Sunday afternoon is the day for junk hunting. My find for today is a 2006 RCA 27V414T deader that a doorknob. turn it on and the red power led flashes 25 times then stays on and nothing happens, no pic no sound no nothing, anyone have any clues what to check for or should i scrap it? Does it use an M134C chassis? The flybacks are a common problem on those. Actually, they are a common fault on all newer RCA sets. You should be able to get a flyback for $25 or less; but, you wouldn't have anything that great if you got it going, IMHO.

Test the CRT if you can...

If the CRT's good, it might be worth saving.

Heck, go for the whole chassis - only $19.95 at MAT Electronics ! They also sell a "Parts Extraction" chassis for the M134C sets as well with the 266310 flyback...

That's cheap, but a new chassis won't do much good if the CRT is shot. Testing the CRT would be a good idea.

True, but in repairing lots of M134C and ITC series sets in the last few years, we've seen ZERO with bad CRTs.

I'd start first by checking the PICO fuses off the secondary of the SMPS - there are 3 in all. Tuners have shorted opening up the fuses. Need a tuner? Get the whole chassis, far cheaper.

As to the original post, 25 flashes - bad EEPROM plus....

I've seen a couple of those tubes short. One of them had High voltage on the pins of the tube when I removed the socket

Thanks guys for the info, as i have no crt tester and i can't find any obvious faults, plus the fact it is hard to believe that a tv less than 2 years old is already broken. i think i will dispose of this unit, unless any AK'er wishes or thinks they might visit the Sunny South "gallatin TN" some time relatively soon. If any one wants it they can have it. else it will be disposed of. Let me know if you have any interest in it for free, Logan

Gee, wish I was still at my uncles in Westmoreland, right up the road - I'd love to get hold of that M134C. Easy as pie to fix, and the CRT's are rock solid. Despite what others here are "nay-saying" - they are decent sets, despite being Chinese made. Lightning kills most of them here in Norfolk - tuners get zapped, they short, and eat one of the SMPS fuses. The ESI sets (RCA service CD's) all have a really easy troubleshooting flow chart for the M134C. Even better is the fact that MAT has the chassis - so swapping a tuner is easy and cheap.

Haven't junked but one M134C set in the last couple years - and it was a broken board/dropped set.

If you do junk the set, save the yoke and degaussing coils - we've been cleaning house (shutting down after 29+ years) and have sold the copper from our yoke and degaussing coils stash - 188 bucks from the last trip! Easy money.

Not likely - I've got kin all over TN - Lebanon, Westmoreland, Murfreesboro, Sparta and others, just don't visit much. They are all older folks, as my Dad is the baby of the family with siblings 15 years or so older than he - and he's 69.

Do as you wish with the set, and thanks for the offer. I've got sets I have to get rid of as well. See my other post about your Panasonic - The microfiche is right here with me.

but it is working already, you better hang on to it for someone who needs to fix theirs. I saw this set at the Goodwill last week but turned it down because i have limited space, but it was half price today and i couldn't resist it. It is a cute little TV with the 10 inch picture tube. I opened it up and cleaned out the insides of dust and cobwebs, and lubed the tuner, and that is all that i had to do to it. This makes my 8th tv set and in the house. It's just so funny that i found a 2006 rca last week that is busted already, yet a 20 plus year old Panasonic, Zenith, Toshiba and others are still working.
