Looking to "borrow" a 1985-86 SHARP TV Remote

Hello friends,

I am looking for someone who may have a 22 year old remote for a SHARP TV set.

Last year I gave my uncle my 20" SHARP (model 20KV575) color/stereo TV. Around Christmas time he said the remote stopped working, so he threw out the remote. I know from past experience that the universal remotes sold today don't have the old codes for this set.

So I'm wondering if someone might have something from that era that might work to "train" a new learning remote control.

BTW, I have searched the web for replacements and have seen them for anywhere from 30 to 75 dollars. Recently I bought a $10 universal learning remote in the hopes I could have someone "train it" to work with my uncle's television.

I'd be willing to ship the new remote to you with funds for return shipment. You could train the remote for me and send it back with no risk to your equipment.

The original remote model number is RRMCG0308CESA.

Have you tried the newer universal remotes with "Code Search"? I can almost guarantee that you will find the code by code search even if none of the Sharp codes listed in the papers will work, as long as your Sharp is definitely an Infrared remote. 1986 should be. RCA-branded universals seem to work best, although I am a Sony fan.

I have an old RRMCG0346CESS tv remote that ought to work. The buttons have to be pressed hard to get them to work but they all work. You can have it for postage and keep it.

Charles - thanks for the advice! I think this el cheapo universal I picked up has the "code scan" feature. It's a GE model. You've inspired me to open the pkg and try it out.

There's nothing special about mid 80's Sharp TVs. As far as I know, they still use the same remote signals as they did in the 80's.

Thanks again to all who offered suggestions. I was finally able to get together with my uncle last night and brought the GE remote along.

I started out trying the CODE SCAN feature, but then decided to start at the beginning - tried the basic codes they had listed for SHARP TVs. I had gone through this same process with a no-name brand remote a year ago and my uncle had tried a different mfr remote last month with no luck, so I wasn't very hopeful last night.

On the 8th "SHARP" code I tried we hit the jackpot!

The 22 year old TV is back in business! And it only cost us $10 cause someone bought the GE remote, opened the package and returned it. Cool!
