I have a friend at work who's pestering me about a TV set on craigslist... I know the popular wisdom on Plasma's, but keep in mind that this person is only looking for picture quality/size, not nostalgia.

I'm going to let him read this, mostly to see what the techs think of a Pioneer Elite FHD1 50 plasma set.

Here is the craigslist link... Good deal/good set, or not even worth wasting the bullets in my .357?

Uhh, if its such a "Good Deal", wonder why the guy is getting rid of it in the 1st place ?

My guess is because in our local Detroit-area economy, he's probably planning to live in the box, and use the money for food...

But getting back to the TV...

Heh... You might be right... not that I would know anything about Detriot's economy...

It's always 7 that comes in the clearest. 2 is good, and 4 is okay, but 7 is the clearest...

If someone is going to spend $3200 on a TV set, they should buy a new one and get a warranty, etc.

If your friend really wants a 50" 1080p plasma display, there are Panasonics for under $3000 new. Personally, though, I would go for an LCD flat panel rather than plasma.

If he is stuck on this partcular model, which is probably among the best plasma displays, at least get him to connect a computer to it and create solid-color test patterns in Microsoft Paint to be sure there are no burned images.

Any specifics on the Fisher brand? Is it still a premium, or just another Chinese rip-off name?

As far as I know the only thing in common with the Fisher of old is how the name is spelled.

Last I knew, they were owned by Sanyo. But, it's possible that could no longer be the case.
