A Doctor Who Spin-off Series?

Tonight on the Sci-Fin channel my wife and I noticed a commercial for what appears to be a spin-off series based on the new Doctor Who series. It was called "Torchwood", which should strike a chord with any other fans of the new series, I would think.

It is supposed to be airing on the BBC America channel starting today. So, this is just a heads-up to any other whovians out there who might want to check-out this new series.

It's pretty good. It starts a little slow, so give it a chance.

I know that this is where this name originated, and I'm guessing that this is set in the same universe. But the Doctor does not seem to be a main character in this series. And if the writing is as good as it has been for the new Doctor Who series, then it has the potential to be genuinely interesting...

Yep - Its based on the Cap'n Jack Harkness character from the rebooted Doctor Who series - he had some escapades with the Rose and the (Christopher Eccleston) Doctor, and goes on to start his own agency (Torchwood" in Cardiff, Wales) to investigate "aliens". If you've been watching the newer Doctor Who series with David Tennant you saw the origin of the Torchwood agency in a victorian Werewolf episode last year.
Torchwood is pretty good, but unlike Doctor Who, its a kind of late night "adult SciFi" show when it aired on the beeb - lots of shagging and aliens and such ...
Kewl! - They're just getting around to run "Season 1" on BBC America?
Season 2 should run in the UK later this fall.
