Neo of course. I just bought a Toshiba HD DVD player and rented The Matrix in HD. This is one of my all-time favorite movies but I haven't watched it in a couple of years. Besides incredible looking in HD this is one smoking good action/sci-fi flick. What a blast to watch. I rented the other two as well so I can compare them to the 480P discs and I can't wait to watch the other two. This movie is as exciting and deep as it was during the summer of 1999. Any other fans out there?

I didn't like the second or third installment when I saw them in the theater. They came so far apart I'd forgotten many of the plot lines from the original. After I owned the set, I watched them all again much closer together and found it far more enjoyable. The first one is hard to exceed though. Agent Smith is still the most original movie bad guy in the last decade, perhaps more.

And another thing, The Matrix had excellent timing. Gibson & Stephenson had been writing about alternate reality / cyberspace for years but this movie fits better into the framework we were seeing starting to unfold then. Everything was happening so fast and many felt life as they knew it was getting away from them and somehow you could trace it to the internet. I can recall the trepidation many of my coworkers had about it bordering on outright fear as it was changing so many of their formerly well understood processes and business concepts. The Matrix played off that, whether intentional or not. It was a perfect fit for that time and is a wonderful sci-fi romp.

They called it the internet bubble. And boy did it pop! Also the "new economy" was highly touted. Good thing neither of these new phenomenon changed our society the way they were supposed too. There have been many changes but it was not the end of our civilization. Of course in 2049 historians may look back on the summer of 1999 and pinpoint that time as when "everything changed". Agent Smith's comments about man being a virus seems to ring truer as each day goes by. That specific dialog by Smith with Morpheus was one of the best scenes in the movie.

That car was in The Matrix Revolutions. The cool car in The Matrix was an early 60's Lincoln Continental (62 or 63 maybe)with suicide doors. My uncle had one just like it and I'd take one of those over the CTS any day. That Lincoln had a mammoth engine in it, something like a 460 ci V8.
