I didn't want to put any time into something that isn't even mine, so I beat on it quite a bit with a wrench. When that didn't work I called my vendor. He sent me one that was sitting around in the store, a sad little monitor from '95. Completely worn out-the only way to get enough focus to be able to read anything was to crank both contrast and brightness all the way down. The longer it stayed on the worse it got. So, I posted a want-ad on freecycle and found the Compaq monitor I'm using now. I like that it's made in Korea, unlike the others which were Chinese wonders. It does have an intermittent-possibly shorting HV? In the meantime my wife found another Compaq crt monitor on the curb. My vendor did say he would reimburse me for the cost of a new one but I find that wasteful, considering all the useable old ones out there.

Heh, you want a CRT monitor? at this point I'd give away one of these 17" monitors I have lyiong around. They work fine, I just don't need them.
