i remember in the movie, someone said 'Cobra Jet'. I don't recall a scoop. I'm pretty sure the CJ was 428. not a ford guy, tho.
the movie was one of the best i've seen

My girlfriend still doesn't want to see it in a movie theater but I told her the movie has a San Francisco feel to it with all the Asian food.

Is anybody else amazed that Gran Torino managed to garner NO Oscar nominations? I sure am.

My wife and I saw it Saturday. We both loved it. Clint was robbed. This film deserved multiple Oscar nominations. Now my bitch. The theater was packed and there were 2 seats left in the top row. There was a morbidly obese couple there with their coats on the empty chairs on either side of them. Apparently it isn’t comfy for them to sit on their coats. My wife asked nicely if they could move over so we could sit together. The woman complained and mumbled something about how we should have come earlier. I about lost it and asked if she paid full ticket price for their coats or not. They moved over.

The Gran Torino in the movie had a 428 Super Cobra Jet motor. Very torquey, not very rev happy. Those cars would go like hell in a straight line, but bad handling. Classic muscle car.

It doesn't surprise me that Clint didn't get any nods for 'Turino.' The Academy had too many other movies that deal with the favorite fare of the nominated movies. This film was just a little too straight forward for them.
And that's why I liked it!Genuinely funny so much of the time, I was really surprised how often I was laughing out loud. I thought the supporting cast was pretty weak - surprising, since his recent films have had such all-star casts - these were all unknowns, and for good reason, IMHO.

Gran Torino is just too far ahead of its time for an award. Milk would have been a good movie to win an award in the 80's.

I would truly love to attend a movie with most posting here in the audience. Phones would be shut off before anyone sat down, talking would abate when the film starts, and disruptive trips out to the lobby would be minimal.

I really enjoyed GT. It starts slow as the characters build, but there is a payoff later in the film. Yea, Eastwood is getting old - but he is cast perfectly and his directing is top notch. A couple of the scenes will be future classics, I want to see it again just to hear 'em again.......

Finally went to see the film. Intentionally didn't read any of this until after words.
As several have mentioned, it was quite a bit different than I expected, but I liked it a lot. |
