Just felt like bumping this one. I sent you a Sams set for it, several weeks ago, did you get it? How's the restoration going?

Yeah, I did get the Sams, actually. It arrived the day I picked up the set

So far, the radio's 1/2 working (waiting on a 33pf for the FM section + power cord and final tune up), the TV gets stations but the sweep sections are a bit flakey.

The 19AP4 is shot

If you think it will fit, I *might* know where you can get the all-glass equivalent 19DP4, NOS. It's a 1/4" larger diameter, and also a bit "fatter" because the O.D. extends further rearward before it tapers to the neck. Very unusual glass tube, because the cone is flat like a metal tube.

I got a quote recently from Hawkeye on a metal tube (16EP4): $450!!!

Specs: http://tubedata.tigahost.com/tubedat...7/1/19DP4A.pdf

Lemme know.

I don't know how I'd mount it, though. And the safety glass is would be an issue - the glass is mounted like a 21FBP22 on an old Zenith...

Ok, the TV chassis's making great progress - we got sweep, we got SOUND! And that means video on this set. The sweep circuits seem to be locking up nicely.

Uh oh! The HV is only 7kv! Not enough to light up that big screen. A little diagnosis found a bad yoke. The replacements, FWIW, are listed as:

Stancor DY-7
Merrit MD70F
Motor roller: 24C792699 or 24K792714

It's got a bad section in it (open).

I have a Sparton that's less than wonderful, which lists the same yokes as replacements, and it's yoke even looks the same. I'm thinking of thefting it for parts (it's a less than amazing TV, and pretty plain Jane). Assuming I can't get a 'fresh' replacement yoke.

This brings up an interesting question - did Motorola, etc, sub these yokes out to Stancor, etc? or wa the TV paerts demand that great back then that third party companies could bother with the effort making these yokes? How unique IS a yoke, anyway? Are they pretty much all the same?

Some TV makers made their own yokes/transformers while others didn't. RCA and GE seemed to "roll their own" but smaller companies like Sparton and Motorola likely would have bid them out. Apparently companies like Stancor, Thordarson, etc, would reverse-engineer the parts. Some aren't very good matches, need lots of mods, etc, while others (like some Thordarson "improved replacement" flybacks) are better than factory.

I would check with Moyers as they just might have it. How unique is a yoke? It would be engineered for screen size and deflection angle-I guess those are the most important factors. Other things can come into play.

Moyers has the Merrit yoke - unless anyone here's got a Motorola origional they're parting with, I'll get it.

As an aside, I found the reason behind the gutless HV on my Magnavox - open winding on the flyback's HV. Out of curiosity, I decided to unwind it and found to my enjoyment that the break was about 10 turns below the last one. Anyway, I just re waxed it with beeswax and will be putting it together later, might fire up that set while I wait for the yoke on the motor-roller - with a punchy HV section, that set ought to work nicely (it was getting a 1/2 decent pic before...)
