Sony 26" Console
 

OK GUYS.. GALS..do you think i am nuts for bidding,and picking up this sony 1982 console set?.I said i would never do it again..I drove to chicago today
to pick it up,it is in mint shape..inside and out,i even got the sales receipt,not a scratch all real wood.. bad flyback and the typical mn8303 regulator..it just looks so bold..i feel guilty..someone make me feel better..:)
pics are from inside my garage..the yellow ring is some sort of distortion from the camera..

If you can fix it easy enuff, what's the problem ? The set's a beaut, that's for sure-I was a fan back in '82, & still am.

I think you are awesome for getting that TV! Great job! Hopefully when I graduate from college, and move into a place larger than a dorm room, I'll have a little better collection! Congrats on the nice Trini!

I wanted a big Sony like that sooo bad back in the day, I could only afford a 19" GE at the time though :sigh:

I like... Just noticed that as late as 1982, Sony was still usiing a CoLoR logo!

BTW, I got seated at a local sports bar a few nights ago near a LCD tv. I was surprised how good it looked (when I walked in). However, when I got closer to the screen, what a pixelated, 32-color piece of crap!

I had one of those a few years back. I'm a Sony fan and always wanted one of these. The trouble with mine though was it had a weak crt so it had a bad case of bleeding during bright scenes. I've since learned that short term crt life was a common problem with these first larger screen Sony's but if yours has low hours on it... your set to go. I will tell you though that if i had the chance to pick up another one with a stronger crt i would do it in a minute. Good luck on yours!

Yes, I agree on how the non-CRT flat screens cannot compare with the picture on a good tube. I say, and I have said here before, a plasma looks like a worn VHS tape played on a Funai 2-head VCR at the SLP speed through Channel 3 on a mid-80s Sharp 25" TV with a bad CRT. But for those who buy a new flat screen, they can at least take comfort in knowing that they're providing a nice bowl of rice for the 8-year-old girls on the assemblyline in a 3rd world country.

Sony used that RGB logo as late as about 1988 or so.

Funny, substitute "Sanyo" for "Funai", and "GE" for "Sharp", and you'll have how I watch taped TV shows. :lmao:

Dude, LOVE the TV! I had a 1979 model. My only complaint is the CRT. Those 26" tubes were short lived and EXPENSIVE to replace. I loved the set tho and if I had a chance to get another one, I'd do it in a second!

Carmine's comment as to what a 32-inch plasma TV picture looks like up close makes me wonder. Who would notice that from a normal viewing distance? Any TV picture (yes, even on analog CRT sets) will look worse when you are close to or right next to the screen. Who actually watches TV that close to the screen anyhow? Bars, taverns and other establishments with HD flat-panel TVs probably have the monitor mounted high on a wall, so the patrons are some distance from it.

As to Charles's comment on picture quality of plasma TV vs. CRT sets: This is one of the reasons I'm staying with my 19" analog RCA CTC185 for now. That set, which I bought new almost seven years ago, makes a beautiful picture on cable, with its original CRT. :yes: The other reason I won't switch to a FP set any time soon is that I can't afford it--yet, anyhow. Oh, I suppose I could afford something like a 15" Magnavox or Westinghouse LCD, but if and when I eventually make the switch it will be to a FP set at least as big as my current CRT TV. I definitely do not want to watch TV on a screen not much larger than an oversized cigar box. :no:
