Console Repair? ( may be off topic )
My apologies to the mod and members if this post is entirely inappropriate, however this seemed the only reasonable forum to ask in.
My father has a small Panasonic music console. No Tv, just an AM/FM/Turntable self contained in a wooden cabinet, two built in speakers. It's been in our family since I was a kid and has a lot of sentimental value..Yes even though it's what it is. :D He has mentioned several times that he'd like to get it playable again. The tt is frozen up, probably the belt. Needs a new stylus of course. The controls are full of static, I believe the am/fm is functional but? The cabinet is in pretty good shape overall. Are there any members on this board that do repair/restoration work on something like this? Or could direct me to someone who does? Thanks for any replies :) |
How big is it? If it is a console style unit you would likely need a frieght company to ship it to any of the AK techs. An alternative is to remove the AM/FM and Player and just ship them.

Thanks merrylander, this is a tabletop size player. Sat on top of our old TV for many years. Maybe I can get some pics of it but it will be a few days. Overall it's about the same size as a vintage receiver.

Save your money
Ask around and see if any TV shops are around you that have been in business for 10 to 40 years. A good TV shop should be able to do this -since stereo is SOLID STATE??, also since have tt. A more cost effective way would be to take out and remove tt--- and ship to servicer, rest of service done at TV shop. ship services are great BUT expensive, sometimes making custom box for item shipped to arrive in good condition. Find A local service shop if can, that can repair tt..

Thanks vintagecollect, I'll have a look at this and see what I can do about it.
