sencore ps148 scope
 

Anyone familar with this scope? Just picked one up, nice working condition with the probes. The unit has 2 multi section can ecaps in it, and a few carboard style ones, which I'm going to replace.
Is this a decent scope to use on older radio's and early tv's?

I don't know Sencore stuff but I had little respect for the company. They seemed to cater to the short-cut, low intellect kind of repairman (I won't say technician). Maybe it was just the way their stuff was presented.

Having said that, I imagine their stuff worked and if you have a 'scope it might be worth refurbishing. How old is it? I'd lean toward not fixing anything that ain't broke.

not sure on the age, no copyright date in the manual. says it's a 5 inch scope and vectorscope. Probes came with it, and the original box.

I agree. Actually much (if not all) of the older B&K test equipment was made in Japan by Trio, also known as Kenwood.

Agreed - Sencore was pricey stuff, better to buy used from the dealer/technician that thought all those pricey tools were the key to making money. Most that bought the marketing BS went belly up. I was anti-Sencore up until the VA48 and VA62 could be had on the used market. Those two analyzers, with the B&K 1076/1077, are the cat's meow. I'll add the LC101/LC102 and CR70 as must-haves for me.

B&K CRT checkers were our staple - the 440, the 467 and the 470 (favorite, by far). B&K scopes were rebadged Kenwood/Trio and Kikusui, not bad for the value, but their sub-15 MHz bandwidth stuff is junk.

As for the OP's scope, it's probably a 5 MHz bandwidth scope, pretty easy to use and maintain.
