whats the deal with the big power tranny off in one of the speaker bays? powr for stereo? nver seen that before.

I can't tell. Did he say it was working or "only good for parts?"

I'm sure that is the power supply chassis for the amp/radio tuner.

Thats a ctc28 and might be a black matrix picture tube wish I was closer.

If that stereo is tube and not solid state, I may be able to convince a friend of mine to go pick it up-but I would need to be certain about the stereo first.....he's been looking for a coffin-like stereo for a while, but it has to be tube only.

That stereo will be solid state. I think RCA's stereo console line went SS in '65.
