Question about a CRT.
 

Hi all again..

2 have a dilemmas... I have a Sylvania with a crt with no label on it, so I can't tell you the number...

the other tv is a Philips with a crt ... probably universal made in Montréal but I don't know the number on the picture tube.

My question is: is it dangerous if I swap the CRT from one to the other ?

What is the danger ? the both picture tubes have the same size ...I want to keep my Sylvania...

How old is the Phillips ? The E-45 was a delta CRT IIRC newer
jugs wont work. Remember you need it to be both
electricly & physicly the same. Maybe someone has a sub book
& can give you a list.

What is the danger if I put a CRT that doesn't fit in my sylvania ?

Well, without a sub book, and numbers, you can compare the two side by side.
Make yourself a pinout map of both tubes as far as what you can see from the outside.
Be sure you can see the wires going to each element. Map it all out well, be sure the
key points to the same spots etc.

When I was in tv school me and another joker swapped picture tubes, delta's, one was
longer, and the screen curve on front was not the same. It worked, but we couldn't
put the back on without putting a extra bump on top of the original tube bump, good thing
it was a plastic cabinet, we melted it together with soldering irons.....

I think you should check out for compatible filaments too, volts and pins.

If you guys didn't get to do this stuff in high school, well, you missed out big time.... Lots-a-fun!

Fortunately for me, I found out that the picture tube I salvaged from that rotten Hitachi was also used in one of my dream sets. On the down side, I have no way to test it.

CRT's are surprising interchangeable. As long as deflection angle, gun type, HV rating(not as much of an issue in color due to standardization), and mounting are reasonably close minor tweaking can often compensate for the rest....Sure it won't be perfectly original, but it will work.

The Sanyo tube will be an in line gun CRT. The older Sylvania will have a
delta gun so wont sub. Funny thing is the Sanyo tube was probably
built by Sylvania, they built most the tubes for Sanyos used in the US & Canada.
My E-45 manual is missing but the E-46 uses the following CRT's
25VDMP22
25VCZP22
25VDXP22
This was probably the best of the Sylvania chassii.
For the uninitiated a delta gun CRT has the 3 color guns arranged in
a triangle like the Greek letter delta. An in-line CRT has the 3 guns
arranged in a straight line & a more modern design.

Zeno, tell me the difference between an E-45 and E-46.. because i probably have a CRT beginning with a 25VDM..... and if it will fit in my Sylvanya..

Looking at the E-46 manual it looks like the E-45 but its been
a long time since I worked on one so not sure. Did you look
at the layout chart in the set ?? Sylvania had a lot of info
on theres & maybe the CRT number is on it.

there is no e 46 chassis in a 25 inch set.the next in series is e 48.the crt will interchange with any 25v delta gun.i own e 45 and e 48 sets right now.the 25vdmp22 was the best looking crt ever made.didnt last long but they made the best picture.

No not yet because my Sylvania is in a basement at the house of a friend and this set is at almost 50 miles from me, When I will have the time I will tell you the other informations about it.

However I measure from a left corner in diagonal to the other corner up right. Where am I wrong ?...Sorry for the bad English I speak french ....

are you measuring the crt?if so,just measure from corner corner diagonally.what is the number of your crt?

Sams must have screwed up. I pulled an E46-1/-2 sams#1730.
Looks like a GT-matic with preset varactor tuning. 3 board chassis
with the Zenith type regulation. Not the later one that had FBT's
go & blow the HOT & pass transistor (E-48 ?). I agree the dark/light jugs
gave a spectacular pix.

The E-46 chassis was much the same as the E-41 and E-45, IIRC, but it used a digital tuner, and not a rotary one. It ALSO had 32KV on the anode and a special tube to handle that HV level.

I think you are speaking about the E-51 and E-53 sets. Hot chassis and an IHVT that did NOT hold up real well, as you said. I think the E-48 was a deluxe E-46 with true digital PLL tuning and NO presets needed. Someone here got one not too long ago i think on CL and showed it off.

I'm lost with your ton of informations !....My Sylvania from 70's or end of 70's.. has an E-45 circuit in it and my CRT is too weak and it has no informations on it... so I repeat my question :


Please, in your opinion, what are CRT numbers for my TV and substitutions if you know. Thank you greatly.

your e 45 should have had the 25vdmp22.if you can post a picture of the set i can help you with it.subs are any 25v delta gun crt.25vaqp22,25vamp22.etc.they will all work electronically and show a picture.zenith crts really look good in the sylvanias.i have a rebuilt crt i was saving for a sylvania myself.its a 25vamp22.

all what I have for the moment is this picture of my Sylvania. i will take much more pictures later when i will go to my friend...
