I will agree with you on that. If you are going to make a plastic-and-metal TV, just let it LOOK like one.

I'd get it because it's a Philco. I had a Slender Seventeener in Alligator White that I never got back from the friend/repair guy. I didn't know better at the time.

It makes me wonder what the other furniture would look like, in a room where this TV fits in! I'm imagining a lamp made out of a wagon wheel, one of those coffee table/magazine holders with spindles, wood frame couches with similar ornaments, cheap paintings of horses... might be just the thing for watching John Wayne.

Philco may have named this set after the Woodstock era of the late 1960s.

I actually own one of these! Found it in the attic of a TV shop. It uses a cheap, series-string chassis, post-Predicta I guess you'd say. A cheap set all around. I did get mine working without too much trouble. I'd sell it, for a good price, if anybody was in love with this design.

It probably would appeal to someone who had been tripping for three days on bad Acid! :D

None taken :) Like a lot of folks here, I don't discriminate much when it comes to old TV sets, especially when they are free like this one was!

It looks like, what do they call it, Chip and Dale furnature style. Or early American plastic? :D

Somebody posted an RCA with a similiar sort of cabinet, earlier this year. I guess that was an era when they were trying to cook up gimmicks to sell people on a second set. I picture one of these in "the den". While the kids are watching Tom & Jerry in the living room, Pop can be in the back watching the ball game, smoking his pipe, a cold one in his hand.

I like free, too. That makes it easier to spend $$$ on for a CRT without someone else in the house getting terribly upset.

The control panel on that TV looks like the ones on GE portables of the '70s. These sets were not much to look at as far as cabinet design is concerned, but they did work well. I knew someone in the '70s (my former stepmother, now deceased) who had a GE portable with a control panel similar to the one being discussed here. Nothing fancy, but as I said, the set worked very well on rabbit ears in the Cleveland suburb (Cleveland Heights) in which it was located; I don't think it was ever serviced, at least not during the time (three years) I was there. I'm only guessing after all these years, but if I were a betting man (I'm not), I'd bet that set was trashed soon after my former stepmother passed away and her house was sold.

I have that exact TV in my dining room, it was the first thing my grandparents ever bought when they got married. I always thought the Woodstock name was a little odd too... Used to have the rolling cart that it sat on too, but unfortunatly that went with the flood 3 years ago...
