Pretty set. Think he might have a rather optimistic starting bid, tho...

Tom Albrecht 07-18-2010 03:14 PM

Color scheme for the mask and speaker griile looks a little different than expected, but seems to be original. Not obvious that it has faded, either. Is this this the walnut cabinet?

Pretty impressive price so far!

For what this is selling for, I would not hesitate to sell one IF I had it. WOW.

I don't know if this is Walnut or Mahogany, I'm thinking Mahogany.
I prefer the model with the dark trim, it looks more like its pre-war cousins.

The walnut photos seem to have watermarks from another seller and the set is sitting on some sort of padding with a different background.

pugs5061 07-18-2010 05:28 PM

Twenty two hundred with another day left. Wow! This is a real cool set though.

RitchieMars 07-20-2010 04:02 AM

$2,800... wow, that's a big pile of cash for a cute little television set! :D

cwmoser 07-20-2010 05:09 AM

I'm sensing that these old televisions are inflating in price.
Here is another interesting sell an Emerson 600:

Perhaps with so many flat-panel TV's around that folks are reminiscing back to the old look and thinking that these TV's have value rather than to be looked upon as junk?

These are fairly rare sets (only 17,000 made) and historically significant as RCAs first post war production set. They usually sell for a couple grand or more.
The blond version is even rarer. I've only seen one for sale in the past few years.

Here's some more info http://www.vintagetvsets.com/621database.htm

Extremely rare objects tend to make people do crazy things:

I love vinyl, but I have my limits! I'm always seeing popular records from the 50's and 60's where people have them listed as RARE RARE RARE. Yeah um... something that sold millions of copies isn't exactly what I'd call "rare."

An early television of which only 78 known examples have survived; now that's different!

Yikes!! Holy inflated price, Batman!

Five months ago another one sold for $2,572 and Eric called that a new record. I guess the bar has been raised to $2,800!

Eric H 07-20-2010 09:38 PM

Actually Harry Poster sold a nice one a couple months ago for $2800.
I think it was working too.

bandersen 07-20-2010 10:53 PM

How weird that they sold for the same amount :scratch2:

bandersen 07-23-2010 02:19 AM

Here we go again! http://cgi.ebay.com/RCA-621TS-TELEVI...-/200499699920

I wonder what the reserve is and where this will end up :lurk:

RitchieMars 07-23-2010 03:07 AM

Hm, I think I prefer the two-tone! It would be a much better match for my decor.

However, putting my car up for sale wouldn't even cover it!

Current record is $2,800, right? I'd be interested to see where it goes. It looks like an easy restoration.

Eric H 07-23-2010 03:54 AM

That's a very nice one, it has the back too. Low serial number.

Eric H 07-23-2010 04:25 AM

There's another one, this is more of a project set though!

Interesting how a sale for good money motivates other folks to bring out their stuff. Suddenly, that "R-A-R-E L@@K!" item doesn't seem quite so rare :)

That one is mine it has been in my garage for years, hopefully someone can
use it.

Tom Albrecht 07-23-2010 09:46 PM

Wow! That one sure has a nicely preserved original finish. Also helps reassure me that I got the colors about right when I refinished mine.

Eric H 07-30-2010 12:00 AM

The really nice one went for only $2200, the bare chassis sold for $278!
