I remembered a picture that I've seen on the Internet many years ago of a bunch of guys standing over the cabinet of an Admiral console bakelite television from about 1948, to show the strength of the cabinet. Afaik, the Admiral TV cabinets were the largest Bakelite objects ever manufactured. They had to be produced in precision polished molding dies in large high pressure hot presses, the finished product could have the moulding flash ground away, attempts at after-press polishing would ruin the high sheen the die polish presented.

Said that the set cost $250 which roughly equates to $3,078.81 today!

Afaik, the Admiral TV cabinets were the largest Bakelite objects ever manufactured. Bakelite coffins were much bigger than this TV cabinet.

Bob, I have that same 26R12 set as well. I had one as a teenager and it got away long ago. I replaced it and rebuilt it years ago.
