Recently acquired a Magnavox model RA5038FR02. All I get is static noise, and a dim raster if I crank the agc down all the way. I've got a pattern generator on order to check if the trouble is the tuner or the main chassis. Also, I tried to contact Rick at Stereomanuals. I then realized the last posting on that site was about 2006. I fear the site may be inactive?

All this to say I am having a really hard time getting any service data on this set. Allegedly it is in Magnavox Service Manual 7357, which I cannot find anywhere.

This really looks like a very low hour set, as there is barely even dust in the chassis, and the HV lead is spotlessly clean. Screen controls are about 1/4 from the bottom.

Any thoughts?

When was the tv last turned on at all? When was the tv last in active service? What type of conditions did this tv experience in storage? High heat, high humidity, and dusty environments are never good for old electronics. I know less about vacuum tube electronics but from my personal experience working with electronics in general, the number 1 cause of issues on any electronics I have ever worked on from the 1980s and before, tended to be bad capacitors. I would start looking at the caps. A good schematic of the tv is a must as well. If the caps have not been replaced before, it is highly likely that they are bad to some extent even if not open, their ESR and value are likely way off.

Also find out if the tv has the tubes in series or parallel. Check to see if all the tubes are glowing or not as well. A good cleaning of the wires and tube socket and pins would not hurt either.

The set is all solid state, and as mentioned, I am having great difficulty in obtaining service data on the set.

Are you SURE its TS815 ? Look for little chassis tag
on chassis.
No Sams on it. Chassis photo would help ID it. Model numbers almost
useless on Magies. Often same models have different chassis.

Neither are the -9 but should be very close. DON get from Sams if you can
help it.

Yes, please; on the prints. I don't know yet if the trouble is the tuner half, or the main chassis half. The pattern generator I ordered has an RF output; but it won't be here for about 3 days. My thinking is to inject the RF into the main chassis, and see what happens. I hope you data would cover the electronic tuning side if that turns out to be the issue. I definitely have high voltage and raster, so my guess would be the tuner side.

If you get a bright snowy pix its probably working.
Sub chassii can be a problem. Often not included in SAMS.
Cross that bridge if & when you get to it.

The T-815 chassis CRTs didn't hold up as well as the T-995 ones did.

It wont blank out with no signal. As damen said could be the CRT so
dont go crazy on it yet. If you dont have a CRT checker there are
voltages you can check & observations that can pretty much
prove it.
