Coulda fooled me, I since checked out the chassis pic in the linked album, doesn't seem to be enough there for it to be a color set, most notably the lack of a three-leaf convergence yoke, but the yoke is partially hidden:

For a cat bed one will use any cardboard box. We were down Maine
the week end & when we got home she pulled the towel out of
the beach bag & used that. The other drifts from place to place but you can set your clock to were you find her.

That could have been a 23" rectangular color Airline brand console. I have one with a nearly identical screen bezel.

It is definitely black and white, probably Sears. The kludgy hi watt resistors in the upper left corner are a give away.

If they had to do this to a tv--at LEAST it was a POS hot chassis BW set--likely with a cheap-ass stereo that might have been a SE 50C5 or so. NOT a decent Zenith, RCA , Mag or Sylvania or such.

I like the before photo- you can tell they tried to hand sand the finish off of the top before giving up.

A while back, someone asked if I had a console TV that they could gut and turn into a dog bed. I had a mid '80's POS Sears console with a banged up particleboard cabinet; so, I gutted that one and gave her the cabinet. If one had to get ruined, I'd rather it be a ragged '80's POS over something older that may be in better shape.

Around here, I'm all the time seeing console radios and stereos gutted and painted in some hideous color combination, all for the sake of being "hip." I guess these idiots are too stupid to realize that they can be repaired and used in the 21st century. Or, they plain don't care - if it doesn't have a touch screen on it, they think it's trash.

A while back, my former neighbor gave me a '48 Magnavox console radio/record player that had been passed down to him. When he first got it, I asked him to give me first shot if he ever decided to get rid of it. He said he'd leave it to me in his will. Recently, their health has declined and they are downsizing; so, he offered it to me. His daughter wanted it, for the purpose of gutting it for a TV cabinet; and, she got mad when he wouldn't give it to her. He told her that he promised it to me first and he knew that I'd take care of it.

I second that. Same kind of people who buy enough groceries to stock a bomb shelter when our forecast shows a bit more rain and wind than usual. Never fails. The part about them not caring, also true.

Before and after? More like "Before and parts/landfill".

I was at the flea market today, where one vendor told me that he got in an argument with another vendor about painting stuff. The vendor who paints stuff told him that he could put an original unaltered piece out there and it would sit for six months; but, could paint it and it would be gone in two days. So, maybe had I painted that '30 Crosley console that I recently sold in six different colors with streaks in the paint, it wouldn't have taken me six months to sell it. Still, I'm not painting my radios in order to make a quick sell. If the buyer wants to paint them, he/she can do it after they buy them from me. However, I'm not doing it.

I am currently working to refurbish an RCA console hi-fi, and I have to say it is a bit of a labour of love. Carefully stripping the old damaged finish took hours, and is still not done. Now my entire work bench is filled with hi-fi parts, the cabinet still needs to be finished and I haven't even touched on electrical repairs. If it had the changer still intact there's another way to spend money. I don't think this is really a realistic project
For the average joe who just wants to fill his apartment or house with furniture rather than restore an antique - it involves too many different skills and all of them would be expensive to outsource. By the time this is done I would say it will be a 25 hour job - imagine how few people would want to pay for that on a console the bought for $50 and could sell for $75 once it's all restored.

Like today, I saw an early '60's Westinghouse phonograph-only console that probably didn't work for $95. I could have bought it, restored it to excellent working condition, had at least $200 in it when I'm done, and sold it for maybe $50 because these idiots in my area have no concept of what all goes into restoring one of these things. Instead, they expect to get it for nothing. So, I left the console where I found it.

That's the best way to explain it I regret to say. Unless you're lucky enough to find one of the few people who want a set restored for sentimental reasons or for actual use, I can't see there being much money in selling restored sets. Most of the inner-city hipsters (the only real market aside from us collectors) would be seemingly just as happy to buy an unrestored set for a fraction of the cost, so they can gut it and install a fishtank or paint it up in gaudy colours. :nono:
