It says Westinghouse...AND has three little triangles, one each of RED, GREEN And BLUE! next to the name

Could this be color?? Or just B/W?

WAY too far away for me to even think about...and besides...if it IS on of the "long lost color sets" it should go to someone who can bring it back to life!!

ISTR this question coming up once before. The set at auction is definitely not Westinghouse' color set of 1957.

I think it's just a stylized W made from three triangles, they are Pastel Pink Yellow and Blue also, not the RGB you would expect to see on a Color set.

It would be worth the drive to N.J. to get one though.

The closeup of the logo also makes it easy to see that the CRT is a B&W one, with no shadow mask.

That almost got me, as the famed 22" color set has a similar cabinet, and the front mask & glass are nearly identical. And the color set has no markings on it indicating color, IIRC.

But I agree that this is not the set. The color set had the on-off-volume knob at the upper left corner, and 3 white auxiliary controls centered above the screen.

B&W Westinghouse.

What was the deal on that funky CRT ? Was it just that Westinghouse couldn't pull it off ? No market ? Too hard to make ? Not any better/worse performance than RCA's roundie tubes ? This all may have been covered B4, but please enlighten me again...

Long pump cycle (Kellers book says 24 hours), low yield, difficult to build and Xray shielding problems I believe, were the major reasons that Westinghouse changed the set design to use a 21CYP22 in 1958. For the CYP sets, the HV was dropped from 25 kV down to 22 kV and the lead shielding on the inside of the cabinet was eliminated and they claimed higher brightness.

I have come across a half-dozen B&W Westinghouses from this era and none had a logo with three color triangles. Something they did for a brief time, or with a certain series?

Too bad this is in New Jersey or I'd go see it myself.

That logo is a stylized "W", I have a late 50's Westinghouse AM/FM table radio with that same badge on it.

The one in Steve K's thread, is the one I rescued from the alley behind an old TV repair shop in Chatsworth, CA in 1985 or so. It's the only one I've seen in person, and it's one I regret having sold years ago, although the current owner is a legitimate collector, and I am happy he has it and is taking good care of it. Also I very much appreciate Steve's magnificent job at restoring it electronically, and keeping it all original and correct, in the process :-) .

Black and white -- with a P22 CRT? :scratch2: I'd expect a 22EP4 CRT in that set if it's b&w.

To clarify, the one that the OP is showing, is B&W with a 21" tube, and the color set is a 22EP22.

And later, I posted a picture of a real 22" Color Westinghouse ca 1957, that does have a 22EP22, to show what the set/tube looks like. Two different sets, two different CRTs in this thread.
