That's a 32" standard Trinitron from the early 90s. Good set, but sadly worthless.

i owned a mitsubishi 40" set .was dropped in shipment and busted up.crt was fine.rebuilt it with fiberglass cloth,resin,and bondo.found some auto paint that was close.unless you looked inside you could not tell.a neighbor wanted it so bad he could taste it.one day he made an offer i could not refuse.fun to move.iirc it weighed 300+ pounds.

I have a few 40" CRT sets; a Mitsubishi CS-40503 (on long-term loan to a friend), and two Sony KV-40XBR800s (one is for parts, since we use one in the house). The largest tube ever made was the Sony 43" 4:3 CRT in 1989 (in the PVM-4300U).

Those things are _HEAVY_. I've got a 21" CRT (professional PC monitor, mind you) that I can't even lift by myself. Not so much for the weight as the fact that its shape means you can't lift the thing without either a) having all sorts of edges digging in to your arms and torso, or b) having the center of gravity be just so that it's at risk of tipping out of your hands.

OTOH, if you consider the sheer amount of force involved with a tube that size, there better damn well be a lot of thick glass to keep it contained.

But, I bet it would be fun to wear a Kevlar suit and drop one onto a concrete surface, say, five feet below you, while recording the whole thing with a high-shutter-speed HD camcorder. A dead CRT, of course.

A Sony 32" was bad enough. I had a 32" set with a warped shadow mask and threw a piece of concrete at the bell from about 6 ft or so away sheilding myself with a big piece of plywood. The boom sounded like a shotgun blast and glass went everywhere.

They imported a few of them to the USA... 3 of them to Circuit City in Los Angeles. Not sure total USA numbers, though. The late Gary Inkman ("VCR Gary")had two PVM-4300s in his collection, and hopefully they're still floating around someplace safe.

Hope they stay safe in his collection or go to a serious collector who appreciates them. I have collected all things Sony since approximately 1961.

I was in touch with a nephew of his, about a year after Gary died, but there evidently was still a lot of confusion, and I haven't heard any further... That was about 5 or 6 years ago now.
