I think this blonde model is the least common of the early Admirals. I hope someone can save it.

More than money however, I want to insure that this television set goes with someone who will restore it or at least keep it from deteriorating, so it won't end up in a landfill, turned into an art deco aquarium, or being pieced out for spare parts.

Nice. Has anyone here successfully refinished a blond finish TV? Most of what appears to be wood grain on blond furniture of that era, is in fact a painted on faux finish.

I have three blond sets. One is made from Korina AKA Limba wood. The other two, including this set, are limed oak. There are some worn areas on mine so I can see the various layers. The cabinet is made from plywood with red oak veneer. Over that is a thin whitewash. Over that is a golden tinted lacquer.

Your blond samples look very promising. :yes: Possibly try a dark grain filler first? But I've seen the grain white as well.

The Admiral pictured below is an example of genuine blond painted Masonite, with real wood trim around the front. I guess they hadn't figured out how to make Masonite molding yet. :scratch2:

I picked the Admiral up for $1 at a local auction. Was going to rob the CRT, but its so hard to part em' out.

Has anyone tried applying watered down white(or some such) paint so that it lightly tints the wood? About 10 years ago in the house I grew up in my mom used this wierd technique to touch up the built in blond wood(pine) cabinets. After she was done the section she redid matched the original quite nicely. I believe she called the process pickleing, though I might be wrong.
