Wouldn't it be just great if no one bid on these "parts".

I would be a shame if they were "stuck" with them.

Geez. I was afraid this would happen. We tried to save it and it that's all we could do. I got to the sale too late and so did a friend of mine. It would be great, I hope no one bids.

The sequence of photos is odd. It's like "here's the set intact", "here's me taking it apart."

I don't see a need for so many photos.

Seems like rather a bizarre character.

Although the RCA 2000 doesn't interest me, I recognize it's uniqueness and am sorry to see this happen to it.

What a waste to take a working piece of history and reduce it to parts.

that whole sequence of pics was to rub it in on us.these people are fools of the worst kind.it is only worth something if it is intact.i hope they are stuck with this and have to reassemble to sell it.again, fools!

This sort of thing upsets me so much. I won't bid on it, maybe at least these losers won't make money off this. But I doubt they could figure out how to put it back together now even if they wanted to.

Oh boy.

The high-end cabinetry and crt, the remote circuitry, the TTL tuner scheme, all ripped apart. Yuck. I wouldn't bid on any of it even if i needed it. :thumbsdn:

Those pics are indeed intended to irritate us collectors. There is no other reason why they would take pictures of their hands pulling the stuff off. His pictures are trying to say: "here, watch me as I destroy this TV you all want so badly". I dealt with these people not too long ago trying to get the TV when it was on craigslist. At the time, it was being sold as a parted out TV, but when I inquired, it was not parted out yet but they hinted that if I shot them a huge offer, then they *might* reconsider. So I wasn't going to get caught up in their little game.
The seller simply is trying to get collectors upset with those photos and Im sure whoever they are, they are reading us talk about it on the forum here. There are many outsiders who just watch what we say but do not participate in the discussions. So a note to you G-2000 parts seller, nobody cares and nobody will bid on the stuff. So if you want, you can take a picture of you smashing the chassis with a sledge hammer, I still won't care because you are only out to cause anger among collectors. I for one certainly won't give you that satisfaction. You've already destroyed the set, so as far as I'm concerned, that TV might as well have been in a fire and was destroyed unintentionally.

Yeah, some people get a perverse pleasure out of doing crapola like this...

zenithfan1
01-22-2010, 06:25 PM
Yep Sandy, they sure do and I won't give 'em the satisfaction of them making me angry either. I could not care less about that set, I did what I could do and that's it, I tried. So did Doug and Bob. They are watching this thread and the other one about the parts on CL, I would put money on it. Laughing their asses off at us. They posted on AK when they first got it so you know they are a member here and know exactly how many people would have loved to get it. If they wanted a collector to "keep it intact" they would have sold it to one of us for a fair price or at least offered to do so. They are dangling it in front of us just to tease. They can keep it, smash it, I don't care. I have lots of nice tvs and some way rarer than that one.
I also have a line on ANOTHER mint G-2000. They won't be parting that one out:no:

Just curious: I ocassionally buy off of eBay, but have never sold any item.

How much will it cost these d***heads for this posting and the photos? Does eBay get a percentage of the selling price?

It looks like they do a fair amount of selling on ebay. Their photos aren't hosted through ebay, so there's no charge there. A basic ebay listing with no reserve is about $1. If it sells, they charge about 5% of the sale price (and Paypal gets another 3% or so).

Well, I am fortunate enough to own a pair of G-2000's, one of them was never sold and in new/unused condition. I am definitely not gonna tell them that one of their sisters has fallen. :tears:

Besides, it will make those few G's that are out there that much rarer and more valuable ultimately.

As it has been said before....you can't fix stupid. :stupid:

Im going to go back a few years here, but someone about 4-5 years ago, perhaps longer, became a member on AK trying to tease the TV guys saying that he destroys old TVs because they are dangerous and hazardous to the environment. It was something along those lines and he created this rediculous picture which Im sure was photo shoped of a roundie on fire. If I remember correctly, he said he burns the TV's and we all shot back at him telling him the smoke from the burning TV was also harmful to the environment in order to use his own medicine against him. It was actually pretty funny even though the guy was a complete moron, much like the seller of this G-2000. Does anyone remember what Im talking about, or perhaps have a reference to that photo?

01-22-2010, 09:07 PM
Thanks for finding that, Adam. I got a good laugh reading that whole thing again! Too bad the pic is gone, maybe someone saved it, but I doubt it.
As for the tek scopes, yeah, I really like my 564. Best scope I ever had and I've had all sorts of interesting types over the past few years. I've got one of those mid 50's battleship scopes too, the 535. Those vintage Tektronix scopes rock solid and indestructable. The "Zenith" of test equipment.

The seller of the G-2000 chassis claimed that "they" loved the look of the cabinet as it would look good in their "retro room". Its your typical unjustified excuse to hack up a TV, but whatever. Its theirs, they can do what they want with it. I must say, its nice to see that there is no reserve on the chassis parts atleast.

Hmmm ...so who did what to whom, when, where, why, and how? Any good speculation for the seller to scoff at collectors? Sure, we're a hearty small dedicated group of diverse people. It's not like our homes are as seen on TV about those with hoarding syndromes ....hmmm, of course I'm not sure about that one. I can't recall the last time any of use posted threads about reaching out for psychiatric help ...but then again, maybe some of use would find better companionship choosing between a wife or a CT-100 with a good 15GP22...now that's is a tough decision for sure...! So, we ask ourselves, do we really understand the dynamics of the seller's intentions? I like to go through life accepting everyone as having positive intent, it just seems to make for a happier day. However, when I read a listing on the 'Bay displaying what seems like quirky behavior, it does seem a bit amusing. Not that collecting old TV sets isn't eccentric to those who don't, it does makes me wonder. :scratch2:

I thought the question/answer was telling. I can give them the benefit of the doubt and guess: they overpaid for the set, realized they couldn't use it like they imagined, tried to sell it intact for what they paid (in a wishy-washy kinda way-did they ever put the complete set on ebay?) and when nobody showed up with a wad of cash they decided, well, heck, maybe the parts will sell for enough to recoup our investment? I guess some folks do that with certain classic cars. I don't know. It really is ashame, looks like it was very clean.

I emailed the seller on Ebay and made sure I was very polite in asking why they stripped out the TV. They actually replied very nicely! Here we go:

"Good evening :) Thanks for your email. This TV is/was amazing and we had purchased it not exactly knowing what to do with it. Once we got it home we realized it was much more than we wanted to deal with as-is. We did list the TV on Craigslist and posted in chats requesting feedback... No one wanted us to take it apart however not even one person offered us what we paid. Very frustrating. We didn't purchase to upset anyone... we just LOVED the cabinet and thought the TV was super cool... the issue as you can imagine is that tube tv's are just getting too complicated with modern technology. My husband is a sound engineer and we really weighed the situation and finally came to the conclusion that vintage audio gear is truly irreplaceable and vintage televisions just don't hold the same value (obviously some do). Hope I am not babbling too much. Just wanted to let you know that A LOT of thought went into making the decision to strip this and we did so carefully so we could either store the parts or sell to someone who could use them. once we removed the tube we realized that this is much too large to store. Thanks again. danette

How much was it going for at that estate sale they got it at?

(no, I don't sit here and read and laugh at all your comments as I have a 2 year old, a husband and my own business that I am too busy dealing with)... We are not even members of Video Karma as this is really no interest of ours. We NEVER purchased this television to sell and are only doing so now to offer someone an opportunity at the parts. Personally... I am so tired as I work nearly 60 hours a week and my husband travels all year... I watch a 2 year old and manage my own business. My husband and I collect and appreciate Mid Century design.... in addition we appreciate vintage audio and 'real people'. I have no time trying to explain myself to any of you and really don't care if any of you bid on this. We have been extremely fair and transparent during all of this. When we purchased this TV all we wanted was some advise and insight... and all we got was slack from you wondering why anyone would fishtank this. NO ONE ever offered a penny... We didn't try (nor are we now) to make money off this TV... while we slept in our van the night BEFORE the sale we discussed what we were willing to pay- intact or for the cabinet... this TV was EXPENSIVE for us and obviously more expensive for the rest of you. My apologize if I sound upset or direct however I am just tired of all your bull. I can't believe that you have the time, energy and just plain ol' lack of tact to hassle with us or me. We work EXTREMELY hard and long hours to make a simple honest living. We appreciate fine furniture and Fabulous Audio gear and have a very modest lifestyle... the fact that all of you have the time to even WASTe on 'venting', if you can so call it, regarding a TV that in many places in this world it's just a frickin' TV (like earthquake'd Haiti... it would be gone in a moment). Go ahead and make yourselves feel better making up stories about strangers who purchased a damn TV..."oh, their showing pics of them taking apart"... give me a break... this is called being 'professional' (obviously a word that NONE of you know)... I have ALWAYS posted my listing with more than 25 pics and what is going to stop me from doing it to even a personal posting - nothing. What I can tell you is that more than likely we will have to remove this listing and just throw out the parts ....hope you are all ok with that... on that note I have really no more time to waste on this damn tv... do you not have anything in life that you value more than this TV... maybe you should spend time on that.... I am going to check on our son who doesn't even watch TV.

People have different interests and apparently mid century design is very important to you. You shouldn't be surprised that others are as passionate about their interests.

To take an extreme example. Not everyone appreciates the Mona Lisa. If one of them loved the frame that it was in and threw out the Mona Lisa for the frame, those that appreciate the Mona Lisa would be quite upset and would not view that action as being reasonable. They would look for other explanations. That was further fueled by the way you made the listing.

The real cost to you of the cabinet is probably higher than you realize. Had you resold the set as complete you likely would have realized a tidy profit and perhaps have more free time to enjoy your son.

Having no interest, room or practical way to obtain a set from Chicago, I'll say this:

Jensen, you speak like a spoiled 12-year-old girl. Life is *so* hard: Two-year-old son. Slept in the van. Sixty hour work week. Traveling husband.

Well, many of us would be grateful to solely have your problems. After Hurricane Katrina, I spent 110+ hours a week working a job and working on my house. That went on for a year and a half. I'm 34 and my hair is going gray. If another storm comes and a federal levee failure drowns us I'll lose every bit of vintage electronics I've restored, two automobiles and a few rooms of "mid-century modern" furniture I inherited due to the storm. C'est la vie, I have insurance...

I would no more sleep in a van for a TV set than I would for a Corvette. That's misery of your own creation.

I would suggest you gear your lifestyle down to fit in your paycheck, stop sleeping in vehicles to buy mcm furniture, and you and your husband spend your time with each other and your son. I think you really need to focus on life's importance and not worry about us old TV collectors.

1.
You say you run your own business (which seems like you buy & sell), so why didn't you check what the street value of the TV was before you bought it? To me this sounds like an amateur mistake on your part.

2.
NO ONE ever offered a penny...

So.. Didn't you ever think to just give the TV away for FREE instead of destroying it??

3.
I feel more pity on your husband & kid then you, because they have to live with an irresponsible, bitchy, and "I don't have money because I don't know how to handle my funds" woman. I mean you can't even afford to stay in a hotel for one night...

what I wanted to say (now that I have calmed down) was I feel this is truly a waste of time 'defending' myself here where we have obviously already been condemned. We had no intentions of upsetting anyone pulling the parts (really... I didn't think people got so 'darn mean' over such stuff). I don't have the time nor do I want to waste more time trying to explain our decision... therefore it is what it is. This TV is literally a plug and go TV so we may or may not hang on to the parts - really is not a big loss for us. Regarding the money - we REALLY wanted the cabinet and if someone REALLY wanted the TV then they should have have nice, honest and a realist (we NEVER purchased this TV with the intent to make money). On that note - best wishes to all of you and Happy New Year. peace.

The guts are not worth much nothing really special. It’s silly that a real audio engineer would gut something like that set anyway it’s sad in few years I’m sure they will junk the cabinet too. Because they could never make it look right with what ever they think they are going to do with it.
