I only really got 2

1) The Commitments - Irish people are just naturally funny and drunk Irish muscians are even better. Best soundtrack also out of any music movie catagory too imho.

2)High Fidelity - Its just sorta a rehash of Say Anything really but the taking place in a record store applies to most of us I think. Also Dick hitting Tim Robbins with the phone makes me choke.

Walk the Line isnt on here cause I think they spent too muc time on his addictions. Flamers need not apply.

Havent seen Dewey Cox yet either but from all the trailors on youtube I seen this has promise.

The Kids are Alright
It's a movie, and it's full of music and about musicians, so it should count.

Tossing out the rockumentaries like "The Last Waltz", "Woodstock, "Monterey Pop", etc, I guess my favorite would have to be "The Blues Brothers"

The movie "Almost Famous" (2000) has an excellent soundtrack (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Almost_Famous_(soundtrack)) and is a great movie about 70's rock bands. The new music by Stillwater is also good.

Hadn't seen it years, but I'd love to get a copy of Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082639/) on DVD, if they'd ever release one. I saw it years ago in USA Network, and I think VH-1 has aired it more recently. Starred Diane Lane and Laura Dern as members of a teenage girl punk band, and also featured members of The Clash and The Tubes. Jonathan Demme was a co-writer too.

I'm with you one this one. Filmed concerts & rockumentary productions aside, it's difficult to imagine an original film score that's better than what's presented in A Hard Day's Night. Except maybe the soundtrack to Bill Asher's magnum opus How To Stuff A Wild Bikini (1965).

Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. The best pure "music" movie ever made.

Just saw "Ray" ( I know I am really dragging on newer movies lately) and I gotta say Jamie Foxx was incredible. Dman thing almost had m in tears at one point. Ray isnt the best but its really really good.

You might find the Beatles titles available to borrow on VHS or DVD at your local library, otherwise watch for a showing on TV. In the meantime, probably some outtakes on youtube. Highly recommend these! :thmbsp:

True Believer- James Woods as a radical attorney. Not a bad movie either.
Mullholland Falls- All the more masterful cause it's in period with the time of events.
Copland- Masterful, period.
Basic Instinct- In spite of the picture.
The Commitments- Agreed.

Gotta mention an obscure British movie called "Little Voice." About a very introverted girl who has an amazing singing talent. Great performance by Jane Horrocks, who does her own singing.

I also enjoyed "La Vie en Rose." Marion Cotillard did a good lip-synching job, and the singer who did the Piaf vocals was incredible.

This is a great thread. Many of the suggested titles I have never heard of before. It should be great fun to track them down and give a listen. Most of my favorites have all been mentioned already. With one slight exception: Down and Out in Beverly Hills introduced me to "Burning Down the House" (I believe) and the music of the Talking Heads. After the movie, I went straight out and bought their album. If I had to put my favorites in order it would look something like this:

"Once" and "Across the Universe" are two of the best Newer movies in my book.

"The Wall" - well, DUH!
"The Commitments" - If you do not own this soundtrack album, do yourself a HUGE favor, and buy one ASAP! The performances are incredible, and it is amazingly well-recorded!
"Evita" - After 30 seconds, you forget that it's Madonna playing the main role, she does it so well, and Antonio Banderas can SING!
"Undercover Brother" - Funny as Hell movie, great soundtrack!
"The Blues Brothers" - (see above)
