What's the difference between the 8080-A, and the 2972-E?

They look very similar:

We have the 8080 and and we don't know the wiring for the universal adapter. We also don't know how to post a new thread on this. Perhaps we can help each other?

Mine is the 2972-E. It works magnificently. Let me know if I can help with any details.

I have the model 8080a and the universal adpt leads just have the clips on the ends but they are not marked which is heater,K etc do you know the pin out of the universal adpt??

The Beltron pinout:

Pin 1.: No connection
Pin 2.: Heater
Pin 3.:G1 Blue
Pin 4.: G1 Green (black and white)
Pin 5.: G1 Red
Pin 6.: No connection
Pin 7.: Heater
Pin 8.: Cathode

Maybe it's a typo. I can't imagine that it would work with the cathode and G1 pins swapped. Can anyone verify the pinout by looking at an actual adapter socket (using the CRT's pinout as a reference)?

Big Dave and Andy are both right! Some testers made the grids common, but Beltron chose to make the cathodes common, and they all connect to pin 8. The CRTs with a single G1 pin use a different adapter.

Are you sure about that? I think you have the cathode and G1 pins swapped (pin 8 is the common G1, and pins 3,4,and 5 are the cathodes). This is how my home made adapter is wired and it works. Your pinout would make it impossible to use with modern CRTs that have a single G1 pin.

My Beltron has an octal to a 9 pin adapter cable (labeled adapter A). The 9 pin connector is made by AMP. Does anyone know the exact model of connector that will fit it? I want to make my own adapter sockets.

I believe it's AMP (Tyco) 1-640511-0 using pins 640545-1.
