I saw my neighbors tv internals the other day when they had a guy doing a service call. (No one told me what the problem was, however) I did notice the tube sticker says Sony, Made in USA. The set was assembled in Mexico. Does sony make tubes here? Or is it sourced from someone else? The set was probably like 2001ish. ? I am confused... :D

Yes, Sony apparently made tubes for both TVs and PC monitors in the USA. I believe that they started assembling 19" sets in San Diego, then moved toward larger sizes like 27", while they then started to build 19" in Tijuana. (surprise surprise, sounds familiar?) Near the end of the CRT era, only the largest sets were built in San Diego.

Anyone know if they still make anything in the San Diego plant.

I wonder if the "tap the CRT to make the picture come back" tubes were made there?

The plant in San Diego ceased operation in '90 I believe..was in Rancho Bernardo.

There was/is a Sony television assembly plant in Mount Pleasant Mills, PA. I think that is near Pittsburgh. I was interested in possbly looking for work there until I found they were too far from my home (across the state).

I have seen recent (2002) Sony TVs, HDTV sets, I think 16:9, marked as assembled in Mt Pleasant Mills.

I would have liked to have toured the place. Hmmm... wonder if they have a factory-seconds shop for the public?

Sony also made Trinitron CRTs in England, as well as complete sets for the European market (with a 100% european designed chassis and a lot of Philips components on it)

I live 20 minutes from the Sony Rancho Bernardo plant. My computer monitor (tube and set) was made there, kinda cool! Anyway, I'm not sure of tube sizes but they used to make TV's and Computer Monitors there. As the years passed, smaller TV's tubes were still made in Rancho Bernardo but the TV itself was assembled in Tijuana, same for computer monitors. Eventually, assembly of the TV's themselves (all sizes) was outsourced to Tijuana but tubes were still made in Rancho Bernardo, same for computer monitors. As of June 2006, tubes are no longer made there. They still make laptops there. Give this a read:

I didn't find out that the factory was so close to my house until a few months after it had been closed, very sad. I will never again in my life have the opportunity to see CRT's coming down the assembly line (something that fascinates me, even though I have never seen it). Can anyone suggest a video that shows how CRT's are made?

Yes, it was, the New Stanton plant here in PA used to make VW RAbbits but Sony bought it and made CRT's there for a while.

I too would like to see CRTS made.

I wish I'd scarfed one of them 40" CRT Sonys for the 2.3 weeks they were made/offered to the public...

The San Diego plant did assemble the SCPH-1001 Playstation game consoles at one point, in 1996; I had one wiithout issues for a while, but the plastics were at least molded there. Found that odd for a game console.

I have a 1994 KV-27S15 that was assembled in San Diego also, tube was made here in the States.
