IIRC, the 24" chassis used two 5U4's. The chassis came with two configurations. One with the rectifier sockets, part of the transformer end bells and one with the socket assembly, mounted on top of the PT.
The one with the separate socket assembly, the newer 5U4's wouldn't fit, because the plate was punched for the old "G" bulb and the socket was sunken.
The UHF models of that set, had the UHF tuner under the chassis, so the chassis had to be removed to replace the UHF osc. tube. It was strange that the tuner used a 6J6, instead of a 6AF4. The 6J6 lasted a lot longer.
