JUst think how much that baby weighs!! If a 35" weighs areound 260-300, I can only imagine what that one weighs. Think of the shipping costs!!

Thor don't laugh the 3" Sony PVM ( pro video monitors) retailed for $2K in the late 80's. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that this 43" monitor retailed for north of 50K.

No f'ing way will I believe that until I see proof, $50,000 for a TV no way, even LCD's and Plasmas when they first appeared weren't that much.

Sorry,
Unless that thing has a solid gold chassis, make that platinum, it was not sold for 50K. Don't recall seeing it on these shores before. Perhaps it is a gray market set. I live in So. Cal. I could save the freight but oh! my achin' back.

I have a catalog somewhere with this monitor in it. It was definitely a professional monitor, not designed for home use. I can believe a price in the tens of thousands for this. Keep in mind that a 20" professional monitor can still cost over $3k and this was, and still is the largest color CRT ever made. I can only think cost was the reason that they never made a TV using this CRT.

I knew Hitachi had a 40" tube, but had not heard of a 43" until now. If Du Mont was still in business, they would probably have a 60" direct view tube by now. :D
